An absurdist Hollywood conspiracy theorist mystery adventure.
Is this the best movie? No.
Is this a very good movie? Yes.
It's impossible to count how many influences and homages are loaded in this movie. Despite borrowing sooo much from cinema history this movie is very original and unpredictable, quirky, funny, and fascinating on many esoteric levels.
There are some A+++ truther quotes ripe for sampling. Sadly it never actually gets close to being a truther movie, but it is an excellent movie about a Hollywood version of a conspiracy theorist and his journey of discovery.
If you like or don't like Twin Peaks and David Lynch movies you may like this movie as it's more like a less intense watered down Lynch movie. The same could be said for all the other watered down influences and cinephile references. Despite watering them down, this movie manages for the most part to be greater than the sum of it's parts, by a long shot. While great, this isn't to say it doesn't have flaws and drawbacks. A slow introduction and an anti-hero make it initially difficult to get into this movie, but there's purpose to it. The pacing, moods, etc. are inconsistent and erratic, and while this may detract in one sense, it really really really keeps you guessing with it's utterly unpredictable kafka-esque absurdity.
" Sam, intelligent but without purpose, finds a mysterious woman swimming in his apartment's pool one night. The next morning, she disappears. Sam sets off across LA to find her, and along the way he uncovers a conspiracy far more bizarre. "

Great review! It really is a mixed bag of a movie. Lots and lots of stuff going on. That rant the guy on the piano gives is fantastic. I bloody loved this movie.

Agreed. The piano guy was good - I wanted to believe him, yet not. Were there more like this.
