Hmm I'd agree, but it's a bit more difficult than that I think. You could argue that the reason it wouldn't become iconic in today's mediascape is because it is already saturated with media that was inspired by the OG Star Wars / got released in it's wake and following trends. If that kind of movie wouldn't exist as of yet, I wouldn't rule out that Star Wars could repeat its success

But Star Wars wasn't alone either, in fact I think there was a massive space craze going on in that era. Star Wars is probably the best but definitely not the first.

star wars used the hero monomyth and mixed it with elements from westerns and japanese cinema. The space setting was incidental. So not all scifi movies will be iconic and popular. Plot and writing is most important, for any movie.

Star Wars episode IV had a really weak plot. It was pretty much the most basic, cliche hero vs villain story possible. The empire even believes they're the bad guys. What made it cool was the force, lightsabers, spaceships, droids, and planets.

After that the plot improved, and this is something the prequels actually did better. The sequels don't make any sense though.

the plot was good it had internal logic, the characters grew, it was great. A simple good vs evil story works for a reason and has for thousands of years. Subverting our expectations is the opposite and sucks.

There wasn't much character growth in episode 4. That started in 5.

disagree big time. luke the main character grows a lot. tho yeah all the sequels had even more growth. The main character growth across them all being from darth vader.

That was in episodes 5 and 6.

nope

also han solo in that he came back to save luke at the end

compare that to the sequels with rey never changing or learning anything in any of the movies

this is the heroes journey, his growth, and is the main reason a new hope was so popular

Yeah I was going to assume in that scenario, the original star wars of 1977 never came out nor did it's sequels or all the movies influenced by it, because otherwise if you just released the same movie today that would just be a rerelease and plenty of people already can and do see it for the first time on DVD or disney plus and enjoy it.
