"Here is something evil no one should watch. So let's now spend a lot of time looking at it and analyzing it."

Can't say I follow the logic. If you think something is bad, why are you promoting it, instead of just ignoring it as hard as possible? I think some people just love to hate things, more than they actually care about improving the world.

Because word of mouth has value, and advertising can fool people into poor choices. And Disney is an evil corporation that holds back copyright law because Mickey Mouse was made in the 1930s and they'll never let copyright advance past then otherwise he'd become a public domain character. Anything that hastens their demise is good.

Unfortunately the deep pockets that can buy nasty spin doctors, PR firms, and review sites like RottenTomatoes often trumps word of mouth. There has been a horde of leftist-libtard propaganda movies and TV shows over the last few years that they have profited from...Captain Marvel being one that comes instantly to mind. That said, tis better to at least try to warn clueless people that they are about to step in a steaming pile of BS, than keep silent and enjoy the hijinks that ensue.

OK, so I know something about Cruella.

Emma (Emily) Stone met a Disney exec in an LA gym and the exec started laying it on thick about how she should do some Disney films.

Emily says "there's only one role I would be interested in and that's Cruella De Vil." Why? Who knows. Likely it's because in the live action version of 101 Dalmatians Glenn Close's Cruella is written as a man hating feminist career woman who is often quoted in feminist memes (http://imgur.com/a/HCMGqCR ). As Emily is a closeted lesbians likely she has been exposed to this interpretation.

So the Disney exec thinks she's struck gold. Runs off gets a rough treatment together and it gets agreed by everyone. Emily signs a contract to make the film.

Then things get weird. Emily starts acting like she doesn't want to make the film. She gets sick. Tries to overload with demands. Insists she can't leave the US because she has to be with her best friend/actual partner who won't come to London. However even at the pre production stage Disney have put too much money in to let it sink and Emily has signed on the dotted line, her salary is agreed and she has no way out without paying Disney a lot of money.

So what's happened. Likely at some point Emily realised that Cruella is a highly unlikeable character which is a real problem for many Hollywood stars. They don't mind playing characters who do bad and stupid things but they can't stand not being loved. This is why Hollywood usually has to bring actors in from other countries to play the villains. Another issue might have been that the film is carried by her while most of her other roles after Easy A have been love stories with another big name or more ensemble pieces.

So Disney came down hard on her but of course to keep her sweet then come the script changes to soften Cruella and justify any nastiness away.

Then just before shooting is about to start Emily declares she has broken her shoulder and can't do it. This is actually an injury which is a few weeks old but she had kept quiet to make to look like it just happened. Disney is having none of it. She is given 6 weeks to knit her bones back together while they shoot the scenes she's not in. But it just goes to show just how desperate she was not to do it, the film she herself basically created.

So I wouldn't say it's all Disney's fault.

Exceedingly plausible. Doper and Egbert gives it two thumbs up!
