It often seems to me that movies in the last 20 years or so are just remakes of older ones, in one way or another. Nothing new. No imagination. Just take the old version, with the same characters, and then give it a dark twist so it's violent and/or sexually grotesque and/or some ridiculous fantasy. I'm thinking of the remakes of Star Trek that put them in an "alternative universe" as a way to pretend to have more stories by twisting the head off something they weren't good enough to write themselves. Or the current remake of "Perry Mason", where he's no longer a lawyer, and no longer a good guy, and the whole thing is about being grotesque and over the top.

I am not becoming "nostalgic", but I'm also just not finding much of anything of value in what's offered through mainstream / corporate media creators any more.
