Does it portray them in a positive or negative light? What is the context in the movie?

Honestly, the director/writer just sounds incredibly pretentious especially with comparing it to Joker for some reason (which by comparison wasn't particularly violent compared to other movies so his comparison makes no sense).

tl;dr jew parents know the nazis are coming after them and send their kid away in an attempt to save him from the ovens. Young kid traveling alone during wartime is a vulnerable target for bad people. He kills his rapist. He sees bestiality kills the animal and runs away in disgust. etc

The article only said that The Painted Bird had scenes containing pedophilia and bestiality. There was nothing in it about the film pushing those things.

Also, I'm not sure why you're calling it a "new major film" since it had a budget of 175 million CZK (6.5m euros, 7.4m USD), has only been released in three countries so far and will get a limited release in USA. Plus, the walkouts happened like a year ago, so that's all old news.
