It all went downhill with the rise of twitter/facebook. The internet now has so much going on, so much controversy and daily news due to those sites. Before all of that I remember how forums and communities were smaller, more tight knit. You'd go to your favorite gaming forum or hobby forum and there'd be a small group of a couple dozen regulars. I still talk to some of those people nearly 15 years later. You'd be lucky for someone to keep in touch after a couple months now...
