I've been noticing some new people here at saidit lately because of voat doing stuff like this. Welcome! Here's saidit's welcome message to learn more about what makes saidit unique: https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/comments/37r/welcome_to_saiditnet/

I did join Voat about a half year earlier than here, but I only posted there once. Since I rarely logged on to Voat, my account was locked.

Funny thing is, since they now only allow people to view the site logged in, I can now actually log in. WTF :P

Voat is like a hostile prohibition speakeasy which is tucked behind a dark alley. You need to know the secret knock and the password to get in.

That also destroys any reach or influence it might have. Might as well not even be on the internet if you're going to be passworded to view content.

They're trying to hire someone to re-architect and scale the site...

entirely new infrastructure

I'm not going anywhere but I need a team that can handle the tech side of Voat entirely

This does not bode well for their survival. At least some people are asking to make the code open source again.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I just don't get WHY they keep doing all these software re-writes. I agree it doesn't bode well for the long-term survival of voat.

I suspect that they've always been on the edge of being able to handle their traffic, and that they sloppily scaled out to get this far, and they know it. Like maybe they've never done a real rewrite. I'm not sure if they ever made the jump to linux for cheaper hosting either.

Could very well be. I'm just surprised because it seemed pretty stable a month ago. And they re-wrote the whole site in .NET, so I'm surprised if their database doesn't use upgraded technology.

In a way I kind of hope they make it through, it'd be crazy if this ended up being the end of voat

Voat's just pretty broken in general right now.

They are down with a bad goat message -- no way to login

I am interested, who want to take down Voat?

[–]magnora7[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Nah just let them be. They seem to be slowly self-destructing anyway.

They are being too welcome for psychos...

There was some post about a 'pizzagate' thing a newslink connecting Epstein's human trafficking to some British royalty, an Arab king, big companies around Hollywood and the Bank and this woman called Junkermann and an old noble house connected to the Vatican. I also seen a post about this 'cult' https://i.imgur.com/ROFireW.jpg not sure what it all means. seems like a lot of anonymous social media is under cultural/information attack right now, in the last few weeks

I only know that there have indeed been some DDoS attackk the past few days.

I think two days ago I could see the site, actually. Only a page with a map with the traffic and where it comes from.

Also some (sticky) posts about increased traffic some days before that.
