How Reddit Was Destroyed: The power now resided in individual subreddits, obviously the most popular ones. There was a power grab to become moderators of these subreddits. Once the default subreddits were controlled, drastic changes began to occur.

The idea that reddit will in any way suffer by removing a few niche forums that served up subject matter that 97% of the population considers tasteless, is a complete fantasy. Don't get confused into thinking that just because a subreddit had enough clout to merit being banned, that this somehow made that subreddit necessary, or otherwise important.
