Just got banned by a mod on reddit's /r/AmITheAsshole for telling a mod they shouldn't have a flair that says "shitler" while they're simultaneously telling others to be respectful.

The mod told me I had to end the conversation questioning his modflair (which is "just for jokes, because being a mod is hard") or be banned, after a couple comments. Then they told me I had to talk in modmail and banned me from the sub. Thus ensuring the other mods would have to take care of it instead of the one in question, and that I could be ignored in private rather than in public.

I was told I was being banned for not being respectful, then told by another mod I was banned for "not ending my conversation when asked to", aka you didn't shut up when we told you to so we had to ban you.

Then I make my counter-point in the modmail and they stop responding.

This is reddit 2019. Mods do whatever they want, break their own rules, but if you question them on it, you're banned forever and can never speak publicly in their forum again. Then they ignore you in private while pretending to let you have your say to defend yourself. It's Kafkaesque.

This is like the 15th sub this has happened to me in, over the years.

Reddit is so fucked.

Oh now they've banned me from modmail and all the relevant mods have blocked me. So now I'm completely cut out and have no way to say anything or defend myself in any way. They just forced it to end rather than deal with anything I'm bringing up.

Also they retroactively deleted all my comments in the sub and that thread, in a shadowban way so it doesn't even say [deleted], the comment is just as if it was never posted. So all the few dozen comments I left in that thread are gone, even the unrelated ones. I had made quite a few comments in that thread, and they just decide to erase all that because I criticized a mod once. Unbelievable.

So to sum up, I told a mod they were being a hypocrite, then I was banned from the sub, all my comments deleted, then banned from modmail, then banned from contacting the mods directly.

Mod power trips gone mad. I committed wrongthink, so I went down the disposal and got erased. That's what happened.

just yesterday i called a soapboxbanhammer mod on voat a hypocrite and i am still fine. but r/stallmanwasright banned me simply for noting how soros is funding some ngo. also had a three-day site-wide ban on reddit just a few days ago XD , r/conspiracy banned me twice, worldpolitics, skeptics, politicalhumor, funny and some others i cant remember

They might as well be! The worst part is how they act all formal and like they're "just following rules" when they do it, and any anger or negative reaction on your part is seen as 100% unjustified in their eyes and to them just proves the ban was worth it. It's like that movie "Brazil" from 1985.

Maybe you're just more aware of it? But I kind of see it too. I think our culture is being manipulated a lot by media that basically fucks with our emotions to keep us from being clear-headed.

And I think this has pushed a lot of people to their emotional edge, and then these same people start thinking "Well, I guess this is just how it is now!" and they begin to lash out in the same abusive ways that they're subjected to from the media and from their corporate bosses (corporate working culture in the US is absolutely abhorrent these days as well). Plus pharmas, and money woes the poor economy is causing, and I think people acting like manipulative jerks makes sense. I bet the same thing happened in Rome during the fall of the Roman empire

Yes, all this, plus--when a person is being abused (be it in a family, workplace, society) and they have not yet recognized it as abuse, or faced it as such, the tendency is to pass it on. I see this on a massive scale.

It actually is, but so is MAC spoofing, and using other devices, as ways to get around it. Actually in IPv6 the MAC and IP address are 1-for-1 so if you ban the IP you ban the MAC.
