I'll try to be one of the good ones and not try to turn this place into Reddit...

Thank you. Please also try not to turn it into Voat.

[–]HurkaDurka 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

For sure. I'm not big on Voat's obsession with racial stuff, but I appreciate that the topic isn't banned on Saidit like it is on Reddit.

That's why I'm here. But so far, I'm seeing a lot of what I'd normally consider wild conspiracy theories. But I'ma hold on and give it a chance.

Yup I'm here as well right now to investigate for the weeb community as reddit has been seriously cracking down on it to the witch hunt level.

While I'm aware and don't expect the need for having actual hentai subs we are having issues with completely SFW posts outright perma banning people from reddit. I'll have to see if such a community fits with the rules and what is wanted here but we don't want to go to voat so I'm hoping that there is a possibility that we could fit in here.

Well I doubt that we can get the whole 400k users over here as that never works with a community transfer I think that it would be a win-win for both communities if our idea of what we want match up.

I mean my other plan was seeing if someone could spin off a voat fork and just use that lol but an established community with devs that know what they are doing would be a lot better.

Edit: I feel that it is important to note that I'm not a moderator or anything of the sort from that community that I'm talking about however I can poke the mods if this seems like a good option to try.

Also we wouldn't get all 400k people here... I would say 10k would be the most I would expect but more likely a lot less at first until it gets traction as moving a community is hard.

Justice for Holofan4life!

[–]wizzwizz4 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Post the content you want to see. I agree with you. Are there any topics in particular you want to see more stuff about?

[–]Anonfamous 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Right on. I think I'll contribute.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yes. Do this, as well.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (11 children)

Would you be interested in a demonstrable conspiracy theory?

[–]Anonfamous 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

Sure why not. I'm mean I have no issue with spending a few hours going down some rabbit hole. But I guess I'm just conditioned for there being a specific place or "sub," for that and not predominantly on the front page. It's like, when I wanna see porn I'll go to where the porn is but if I'm not in the mood I don't want to be constantly bombarded. That being said.

What ya got? You have my attention.

[–]FormosaOolong 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

But I guess I'm just conditioned for there being a specific place or "sub," for that and not predominantly on the front page.

There is an account with many sockpuppets that keeps spamming the front page with garbage "conspiracy" clickbait. A solution is underway, but it's tricky when a site is doing its darndest not to excercise censorship.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

First, a question.

Do you think that it would be possible for a human to successfully fly a missile using manual controls, and successfully and safely land this missile.

Crucially, without the aid of computer guidance (accelerometers, committee aided autocorrections, GPS, etc.).

Would it be possible for a human to accomplish this feat using 100% human skills???

[–]Anonfamous 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

Wait. I have more questions. Are using "missle," as a metaphor in describing a fighter jet? Or are we talking about a missle specifically designed for a single kamakazi (spelling) pilot? Or are we talking about some form of intercontinental ballistic missle that some nut job retrofitted with a steering wheel and is now attempting to fly it?

I could say definitely yes to the first. Probable to the second. And highly unlikely to the third.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

I'm asking if you believe that a human could fly a wingless missile, similar to an ICBM and land it safely. Steering wheel, etc. The controls could be electronic, and/or mechanical (hydraulic, gear, transmission, etc.).

No guidance, sensory response, or aided steering. No wings, no parachute.

Guided soley by human thruster control.

[–]Anonfamous 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Most definitely not. Missle systems are hard to get right even with the newest technology and the brightest minds. I'm still curious where you're going with this. ?

[–]Tom_Bombadil 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

I agree with you completely.

The logical conclusion to this line of questioning, is that we never landed on the moon on any of the 6 Apollo "Moon" Missions".

It's an absolutely impossible feat. 6/6 flawless landings, in 3 short years. Couldn't ever happen.

Edit: There's mountains of indisputable evidence. But this thought experiment is all that is required, if we're honest in our assessment.

Edit 2:. The astronauts would not have had:.

  • Video cameras to see the landing sight, or any way to see through the thrusters that showed their descent.
  • A laser range finder to gage distance to land even if they could see
  • Any depth perception, even if they had a screen
  • Any atmosphere to use as an aligning force for orientation (fins, wings, parachutes, etc.) So once they start rotating (yaw, pitch, roll) is over and they'll never regain stability.

Space X crashed 1/3 rockets last year, and they're top of the line 2018 tech. Imagine 1969 tech.
Not possible.

Landing is the hardest part of flight.

[–]happysmash27 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

What about all the scientists monitoring the rocket though? And the long time frame allowing them to align it perfectly? I'm sure a human could accurately launch a missile and hit it accurately with enough math. They had very basic computers aboard the ship too. Of course one person couldn't do this, at least not easily; that is why they have massive teams for these.

I think a better example would be things like the NSA, which are verified conspiracy.

There is a reflector on the moon for proof as well, if I remember correctly.

First people fooled.

Doesn't matter how many people are in the team. There's only one pilot. They could never safely land it. There's no reason to make excuses for them.

I think a better example would be things like the NSA, which are verified conspiracy.

The Apollo mission is a better example. It's staring us in the face, but many cannot accept it. You admitted it with the:

Of course one person couldn't do this.

There is a reflector on the moon for proof as well, if I remember correctly.

Could be there. If so, it wasn't put there by astronauts in the 70's. Realisticly, it probably isn't there. Enough people believe the hoax. Why would they bother?

It's better to rip this band-aid off early. You'll be glad you did later...

Geeze Reddit will take anyone's money. I guess they really want Reddit in China before their IPO

[–]magnora7 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Publicly traded companies are actually under a legal compulsion to always make the most profitable decision. If they don't, their shareholders can sue them and easily win and bankrupt the company. It's a dirty open secret about publicly traded companies and the legal system. Once you go IPO, you lose control of the company, because you have this constant legal threat that limits your decision-making abilities.

This will almost guarantee reddit will redesign itself to suit advertisers to generate the most income (because literally by law it has to), which makes it very likely reddit will go the way of digg.com, given enough time.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

I'm way less concerned about the Chinese owning a portion of Reddit, than I am of US control through the Atlantic Council.

It's already been hollowed out by the neoliberal sellouts.
They already sold American jobs to China. Let them sell China a major neoliberal propaganda outlet.

Name some countries that China has invaded in the last 200 years. Maybe it'll do the world some good and prevent war plans with the Chinese. While they're at it; sell some shares with Iran, and Syria.

I propose a stock stock buyback from Israeli investors...

Don't be so sure of that. They'll receive criticism when it's warranted.

I prefer to make criticisms of my own country. I don't feel the need to hold China to a high standard.
The US is the global hegemon. I believe the the US should be behaving better.
It is not a moral action to criticize other countrys, and ignore the failings of ones own.

[–]4D-Printer 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I was mainly uncertain how to read your post. First of all, the "200 years" thing seemed strange, as the tail end of the Qing dynasty doesn't really have much to do with modern China. Second, I was unsure if there was an implication that there had been no invasions, as there certainly has. Vietnam, Tibet, India, technically the Soviet (tiny island), most of which have been limited in scope. Might have forgotten some. I don't think any of that is due to strong morals, but rather a lack of ability to project combined with a lack of industrial power until relatively recently. Their geoeconomic strategy also strikes me as worrying, but that's going off on a tangent.

Going by RAW, you're entirely correct on your assessment of the US. Much of its behavior has been disgraceful.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

Agreed.

Most (can't think of an exception) empires will take from other nations if they're powerful enough.

Objectively, China is decades from being a threat to the US mainland.

I'm a US citizen, so US actions are my responsibility. China's actions are not.

We're all world citizens, and I try to view things in that light. Nevertheless, there's a special kind of embarrassment and shame when your native country behaves poorly.

Edit: This was very enjoyable. Is Saidit like this in general?

[–]Tom_Bombadil 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Generally. It will continue to be; what we (and everyone else) make it.

Amen to that! Couldn't agree more.

Welcome to saidit.
