I won't respect someone who murders children. Neither will I respect anyone who calls for me to respect them in any way.

Can I call the shooter an inhuman monster worthy of eternal damnation? Can I say that I hope the shooter is burning in hell forever? But you get offended if I say "she" should burn in hell forever instead of saying "he" should burn in hell forever.

Yeah fuck off. Why the fuck should I give a single fuck what a child murderer wants to be called? As far as I'm concerned if you want to derail conversations with useless bullshit tone policing about what pronouns we use to refer to a fucking child murderer, I propose we use the pronouns "was/were". And I think you're on course to burn in hell with them if you defend such evil.

Exactly. Respect is earned. I can choose who and what I want to respect.

A lesson many don't understand. Respect is earned you can't demand it. You can demand obedience if you have power but it's a very different thing from respect.

I've seen it with teachers many times. Teachers legitimately respected by their students have no need to demand obedience, the students will believe the teacher has their best interests at heart and take the advice accordingly. They'll usually do what the teacher says simply because they trust them to be right.

Then you've got the "you must respect me because I'm in charge" types, you'll be obeyed only because people fear reprisal, they don't respect or trust you, and the instant that they think they can get away with defying you they will.
