The current best practice isn't clearly the best since suicide rates are still high even after surgery, and before you give me the"Suicide is high because of a lack of acceptance and discrimination".Bro,the surgery does not change ones biological sex no matter how many lies are said about the neovaginas or neopenis.Secondly, what is discrimination?Because i've seen transcels that say a lesbian or cis man not dating a trans woman is enough to cause them to want to kill themselves or misgendering is enough to have suicidal thoughts. What ever happened to trying to get people to accept themselves for who they're biological born as?If trans people can't live in a world where they can't except themselves for who they're biological born as then that's their problem not ours.

Nope. For instance:

RESULTS: Transgender children showed no elevations in depression and slightly elevated anxiety relative to population averages. They did not differ from the control groups on depression symptoms and had only marginally higher anxiety symptoms. - https://brettcollins.ca/files/peds_Olson.pdf

Yeah, because they're children who haven't suffered puberty yet. Unfortunately that also makes it nearly impossible to diagnose gender dysphoria vs. confusion or social contagion or other causes.

The results are consistent if you include adults. Here's a meta-analysis of 53 studies.

Note the results:

53 studies were included. Findings indicate reduced rates of suicide attempts, anxiety, depression, and symptoms of gender dysphoria along with higher levels of life satisfaction, happiness and QoL after gender-affirming surgery. Some studies reported that initial QoL improvements post gender-affirming surgery were not always enduring.

Those studies are all badly done. Most have a drop out rate of 30-50%. What do you think happens to those trans people who fall off the map? Also those who have surgery rely on their surgeon to keep cleaning and fixing the open wound they have. They have a justifed fear that if they give them a bad review the care they need to survive might be taken away.

That's not mentioned in the limitations section.

Did you just pull it out of your ass?

Some studies reported that initial QoL improvements post gender-affirming surgery were not always enduring.

And that would be correct. They get a glimmer of false hope, but the truth eventually sets in and they're completely out of options.

some

So the other studies were wrong, and probably biased.

I'm supposed to take your supposition as fact?

I don't. If you can't supply the evidence that the studies are wrong, or the studies showing the opposite result that are better controlled or larger sample size, then I can't take this supposition as evidence of anything other than that you're depressed about the world.

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Well no kidding I'm depressed about the world. How on earth could you not be? The only way to get through it is by denial and blissful ignorance. Cognitive dissonance and toxic positivity are very useful in this regard. Neither of which are effective enough on me.

We hate "pessimists", but science has concluded that they're simply realists being honest with themselves.

The studies are the best that we have, and all the work in the area points to the same conclusions.

It's pretty clear that we're doing this right. It's not impossible that evidence comes to light that changes our approach. But it's unlikely to get better without new technology.

It's not as bad for everyone.
