You sure they just couldn't fix it properly? Reddit couldn't program themselves out of a wet paper bag. There's issues with the core mechanics that pop up and take years to fix. For instance, sorting your own profile by top comments was broken for a long time and it was a known issue, just took forever to fix and it occasionally breaks.
