Keep in mind they also excluded the third guy to join Reddit. Aaron was the fourth member on the team. So they didn't rewrite history but rather only focused on the very, very beginning of Reddit. This article from 2014 covers the basics of how it started and explains how Chris and Aaron where brought in.
