Welcome to Saidit. I think you will come to see that outrageous ban as a mixed blessing. Reddit really does suck now so I hope you'll find this growing community to your liking. There are so many new subs, I can't keep up.

I do. I have come to really like saidit in the short time I've been here. It's got the benefits of a small sub, where I actually recognize the contributors instead of them being rando users and the people are surprisingly intelligent and open to dissenting opinions. You won't say the wrong thing here and get downvoted into oblivion, or banned, like reddit.

Although reddit can't actually ban anyone permanently. As a former reddit mod we had some real issues with problem users because people can just whip out a new name. If they actually IP ban you, you can use a VPN. They can't stop you from being on there and generally they don't care to even try besides making a token effort.

I agree with all the good things you're saying about saidit but it seems that those very characteristics that we like about being here are attracting spam bots and entities that would like to disrupt the situation. For example, today the amount of garbage posts is off the scale. Obviously some people—maybe the same interest groups that screwed up reddit—don't want us to have nice things. I'm confident Magnora7, d3rr, and other hard-working users will find a way to deal with the situation but come what may, I'm staying here. Again welcome and enjoy.
