I'm all for archiving things, and I don't think fairly benign stuff like /r/911truth shouldn't be censored (however much of a nonsensical echochamber it is) (unless I'm misguessing the content on the sub), but aren't there some things that shouldn't be archived? Like, say, watchpeopledie?

All are quarantined due to shocking or highly offensive content....except 9/11truth. (For the real story, go to the 9-11 commission's official page. Thanks admins of reddit, but I don't think the real story is there.)

I downloaded the official mobile app. When I search for r/911truth it does not come up. Other subs with similar names do. Even the relevant post list doesn't have one link from the original site (but I may have missed it, still need more caffeine).

Just a side thought, could this be detrimental to reddit alternatives? This move is likely to flood alt sites with a lot of racist crap. Can definitely see mainstream touting the integrity of reddit while showing the alternatives as platforms for hate.

Yeah this seems reasonable to me and is something magnora and I have discussed. We're firmly committed to landing somewhere in the middle and enforcing the pyramid of debate content policy, so hopefully there's enough audience to support it.

I recommend setting up a system that detects lots of referral traffic – or maybe just "lots of traffic" – and temporarily disables account registration. It's something that I've read about other sites doing, to great effect, in order to avoid a September That Never Ended-style destruction of the existing community.

This is my concern too. I'm all about supporting newer, smaller sites as reddit continues it's march toward bland advertiser-friendly irrelevance. But so many of the other smaller sites are seething with knuckle-dragging aggressive racism that it's a major turn off. The whole point of this is promoting unity and cohesiveness, not racism and division. Is all of us against the system, not against each other.

In my opinion it is organized or paid shills who have, in various ways, almost ruined the internet. First it was spammers trying to sell something or promote products. At worst that's annoying. But it's the partisan political shills, especially the right wing ones, which have really destroyed Reddit for me, with their lies and brigading, organized downvoting and trying to silence anyone with whom they disagree. But I've had some problems with leftists because of their support of identity politics which I consider a capitalist divide and conquer scam. It's the enemy of solidarity and unity.

This will be a deal breaker for many people. 911truth is the most credible conspiracy around. And because it's credible it's the one TPTB want to suppress. They are really hitting a lot of subs. Some of them I'd never look at but some of them credible. So they are doubling down on censorship and spreading lies.

/r/911truth can not be found in searches. It can only be found by entering the url directly. For this reason, you can not reach the sub using most reddit apps now. You CAN access it using the website on mobile, since you can enter the url.

There's a comment here saying that the quarantined subs are now only viewable on desktop. Haven't checked if it's true, but that seems big. I'm guessing that a large number of users are not on desktops as much as their phones.

It still works for me on mobile, old and new reddit. But you have to be logged in to view quarantined subs and maybe even have a verified email on file.
