This place is more debate centric

This place is a tumble weed convention. The most active posts have like 4 comments after a week. This place has promise, but it is anything but debate centric.

Even though you're in a 1 day thread with 14+ posts. Embellish much?

Take a look at the default front page. I'll stand by my statement. Also, you might enjoy this.

Yes, I'm aware that comments can be slow, was just pointing out the irony.

Everyone talks about attracting more users to the party, but no one really talks about whose going to buy the beer, so to speak. At some point that entails more server costs which would eventually lean toward advertising for funding. Advertisers encourage censorship, so then the party ends and you're back to square one.

It is absolutely a chicken and egg problem, my issue was with the op's claim that this place is debate based. It simply isn't because it isn't populated enough yet. Comments make or break digg-a-likes. Right now, that needs to be greatly fomented to help this place grow.

That's mainly from a lack of advertisement. We need to offer something here that reddit and voat can't.

Then we need to tell people about it.

tbh I like this site, but I'm only here because I was tired of having my accounts banned.

The majority of people with banned accounts are usually the type of people who go over to voat. Usually.

The_Donald over in reddit is in between a rock and a hard place. If thedonald.win didn't exist I would have recommended them to this site.

Do we really want that many that many people on this site discussing politics? Does saidit even offer something that thedonald.win doesn't already have?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news: Saidit really doesn't have a gimmick. There's not much to make it stand out. The mods here are nicer. The site staff are nicer. That's not enough to drag the normal people off from reddit... yet.

I agree with your sentiment, but i disagree with the "gimmick" approach.

Gimmicks are great if you wanna get rich.. find some fad, exploit it, and sell for big money before the crescendo.

My opinion is people have to be willing to invest their time in being part of the community. That's slow unfortunately.. You can get a fancy VPS with databases and analytics or buy a small server, business internet connection, and run a bboard and irc server from your closet, but the people have to come and build a community.

And usually the site owner has to be part of it because they believe in the community.. Otherwise, users end up feeling like they're just being monetized or they end up just like at reddit where certain groups get exploited. It's hard on the users because people don't want to leave, for any number of different reasons. It's worse When you realize you've invested so much time somewhere, and it's terrible to feel like it's wasted time, but sometimes the neighborhood goes to shit, that's life, sometimes people just need luggage.

So far things are pretty good here. i think m7 does a pretty good job with the site. I'd like for there to be more action in other areas of the site besides debate, news or politics, it's slow going but at the same time there is some pretty crazy stuff happening in those three topics. I guess ultimately, you don't move into an up and coming suburb while expecting immediate city lifestyle and services. You just hope there's enough infrastructure to support a good base of ppl and hope the neighborhood builds out well.

Otherwise, it turns into Oakland, great if it's your tribe, but don't get caught on the wrong block if you don't belong.
