The comment is ironic. Does that not make it an ironic contribution? Though I get your point, why bother, boredom is the real answer.

i doubt any ship captains were jewish, that's a tough job they wouldn't want to do, they just financed the operations

Did either of you even look at my source? Are you going to address it?

[–]sproketboy 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Yes I looked at the source. Hence the ROFL.

You know we're not on reddit right? You have to actually refute something like an adult.

doesn't say 80% captains in it, odd claim

The Jewish slave trade was/is an empire that had been building since ancient Rome.

However, maybe I'm confusing the 80% figure with something else. Here are some quotes:

Excerpt from New World Jewry: "The ships were not only owned by Jews, but were manned by Jews and sailed under the command of Jewish captains".

Jews and Judaism in the United States: A Documentary History: "Jewish merchants played a major role in the slave trade. In fact, in all the major colonies French, British, or Dutch, Jewish merchants frequently dominated".

United States Jewry by Jacob Marcus, 1776-1985: "All through the 18th century, into the early 19th, Jews in the North were to own black servants."
"In 1820, over 75% of Jewish families in Charleston, Richmond and Savannah owned slaves, almost 40% of all Jewish households in the US owned 1 slave or more." (for comparison, even in the south, less than 5% of white households owned a slave, less than 2% in the entire country). <- Maybe this is where my 80% figure is coming from.

Jewish historians also mention slave auctions were so heavily dominated by Jews that they actually closed the auctions on Jewish holidays.

My sources are almost all Jewish historians literally bragging about dominating the slave trade. Jews were 2000x more likely to own slaves during the slave trade in the US. So, as you can see, historically slavery seemed to be mainly a Jewish problem in the US.

sounds like some jews were captains but not most, now though it just didn't make sense for me that they'd be on front lines with a tough job like that, they'd more likely own businesses where they'd want slaves to work, which that does describe there

If I find the source confirming the part about captains in the meantime I'll post it.
