It still amazes me America hasn't implemented a government sponsored social media site.
I know china has their HappyChinaPerson System TM and it does great things for it's faithful citizens./s
Major thing to remember: Name Recondition scares the hell of governments. If several celerbrities got together and asked their fans to show up to protest somewhere, there would be thousands of people almost overnight. Now imagine A hacker takes control of a few accounts. "Bring your guns! March on the capital!" How many brainwashed idiots do think it would take before a riot squad started breaking noses?
My issue with reddit, facebook, and twitter all trying to promote Authentication is how easily that bullshit can be taken away. There is nothing in place to stop them from un-Authenticating you if you piss them off.
All of this is bullshit and a waste of time. Anonymity on the internet is one of its best features, and there's no point in "Authenticating" someone if you can take it away.
Fuck reddit. Fuck facebook. Fuck twitter.

Zuck didn't make FB what it is, the CIA did, so the US government has their social media indeed. See Lifelog and In-Q-Tel.
