I use Rainlendar and Rainmeter on Win 7.

Eventually I'll migrate to Linux Mint and have to find something similar.

Mint is a good place to start if you're unfamiliar with Linux. I'm on Pop! OS which is Ubuntu-based like Mint and it is quite user-friendly. There is a Linux version of eDEX-UI and it looks quite nice although a bit heavy on resources(+15% CPU usage) and it takes about half a minute to load and start. TOP and HTOP are lightweight but on the terminal only(and text-based). If you ever decide to make the switch and have questions, don't hesitate to ask(I'm assuming, perhaps wrongly, that your Linux knowledge is minimal)!
