I like Linux Mint because all the drivers are installed and it works like windows, but Ubuntu is still good too but I think it's become a bit bloated in recent years. Redhat is also useful, but a bit more complex.

Answer: The one that works the best for you.

But really, try out a bunch, and understand that the difference between distro's are how they have the repository set up, their update cycle, and how and what they install. Desktop environments mostly have no relation to the distro, and you can usually try out different desktop environments freely. Note that some desktop environments can cause another to not work (EG: Gnome 3 and Trinity), so be aware and do research before installing.

I prefer Arch Linux because of its simplicity (just load what you need/want), so its not bloated. Their wiki/documentation is second to none (I know of other distribution users referring to the Arch wiki to help fix their issues.) Now that's class! ;)

For a XP Pro user like myself, the best distro was the easiest to use...which is MX Linux.
