This, I don't know if it's ever been said better, or maybe it just works for me:

It's hard to remember
We're alive for the first time
It's hard to remember
We're alive for the last time
It's hard to remember
To live before you die

It's hard to remember
That our lives are such a short time
It's hard to remember
When it takes such a long time
It's hard to remember

This song is literally terrifying and beautiful at the same time lol.

I haven't listened to Modest Mouse in years, thank you for sharing! Float On is such a soft song compared to this lol. A lot of their songs discuss topics like this, I miss them!

Edit: You have me on a binge now, I just found my favorite MM song! I forgot about this song completely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPhnOKmhbBw

I'm glad you gave it a go! It's my ultimate music post for this sub, I'll never top it. Yeah the song is a heavy hitter. I think most people appreciate simple songs, and these are some of the simplest most obvious lyrics ever, at least the part I quoted, yet I feel like I haven't heard them elsewhere.

If you want more, this one is similarly heavy is a life kinda way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlUwei4bMcA

Here's a rocking one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tmhp_NEH12Y

The words may be simple, but the way they're executed isn't imo. Sometimes they feel very paradoxical but make sense, and they always throw in these like, dissociative guitar chords, that you aren't expecting or clash yet still fit, and it almost makes it feel like you've been hit with a poison dart or something and then those "simple lyrics" hit you. I feel that's what makes their music so terrifying and beautiful lol!

dude I love "One Chance too", "Good News for People Who Love Bad News" is a great album. "The World at Large" is great song too... "This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About" is amazing too, dramamine is such a good song..

edit: never heard Shit Luck b4, I missed it somehow when I first read your comment, that song is seriously gr8. There are those "disassociative guitar chords" I was talking about.

heck yeah, that's it. so dissociative that it sounds like strangling a cat sometimes. I don't even listen to that much indie shit, it puts me to sleep, but these guys have/had it, epic music and lyrics.

Not that I know from personal experience. It's on Whale Song especially, pure catty noises.

nice, so many gems. they were my fav band for a long time. sadly I think they are pretty much over, their last album was a stinker. The lead singer Isaac is up in Portland living in his studio and he hooked up with his violinist or something, so he's living the good life and might not have much to write about anymore.

I remember hearing back in the day, that Issac was kind of an asshole.. A lot of people didn't believe it. I don't know if you've ever listened to Brand New or not, but it was very similar to how there were rumors with Brand New's lead singer for years (except those were sexual allegations), that no one believed either (due to the content the band released), that resulted in the ending of the band.

Not surprised a bit, I've seen him be short with people in interviews, etc. Doesn't talk to the crowd too much. Never heard of Brand New, now I have to give it a listen.

As long as he didn't hurt anyone physically.. I don't know what more you can expect from another human, there are a lot of musical artists who are assholes lmao. The lead singer from Brand New is a completely different story though.

Never heard of Brand New, now I have to give it a listen.

They're honestly good, they just get really dark, heavy and even biblical at times. "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me" is seriously a great album.. A lot of the songs on that album are inspired by passages in the bible, like the song "Millstone". They've taken on a different meaning for me personally (and I don't listen to them really like I used to), now that it's come out that the lead singer was fucking around with young girls during the myspace/warped tour era. It's a shame if you read about it.
