Hard to know what to make of Schwab and the 'stakeholder capitalism' ideology. It's centralized social ideas are authoritarian bordering on fascist. They claim to be doing this to create a better world for everyone. The problem is they are so greedy and arrogant I fear that even if their intentions are indeed noble, this whole thing will devolve into super-global corporate fascism

Fascism is corporatist and I like that aspect of fascism just fine, though the Patriotard imperialism is dumb. Fascism has an undeserved reputation because of Allied propaganda. I strongly dislike the use of fascism to mean "whatever government I think is mean". Corporatism is popular among many of the Mises types, who appreciate how it helps to protect autonomy in ways that atomized individuals cannot. Both fascists and libertarians of this type look to medieval Europe for this inspiration. Hoppe, Rik Storey, Kier Martland and Sean Gabb among others. Fascism was actually more laissez Faire in practice than the USA is today. Please read Stanley Payne, Robert O. Paxton, Mises himself and Paul Gottfried on Fascism instead of repeating memes that, coming from democracy fetishists and Commies, Libertarians should regard with suspicion.

I am no particular fan of Schwab, my point was more that Republicans are stupid.

I appreciate your nuanced take on Fascism. It's possible I have been misusing this term in an ad hominem way - I usually use this term to describe a government that forces me to give up my autonomy for either my own protection or some nebulous greater good.

I'll confess to not knowing a ton about Mises guys - but I know Jeffrey Tucker from Brownstone has something to do with them, and he loves freedom and autonomy, so I'll admit I may have some reading to do from your list. I like to be able to understand and represent in good faith even ideas I do not fully agree with.

Fascism failed and it had a horrible foreign policy, but it had a free trade policy and was fairly non interventionist in the economy. It was backed into a corner by England and ended up alluring with Germany in self defense, but Mussolini hated Hitler and was the only person who stood up to him the first time he tried to annex Austria.

Thanks for the link, this is fascinating, I had clearly mischaracterized Fascism pretty badly. I get irritated at the way the word 'communist' gets thrown around in a similar manner - usually having nothing to do with private vs public ownership of the means of production. A little ashamed to have had this so wrong, but unsurprising considering the incorrectness of many sources. Appreciate your assistance in becoming better informed.

It's always hilarious to me when Boomer conservatives call credit card company whores like Nancy Pelosi 'a communist'. China isn't even really communist anymore.

No, they are very Capitalist these days. Was talking about this just today in s/politics actually. Still it's a little frightening how certain words become synonymous with 'any bad guy' and lose all their real meaning to a majority of people.

I am really annoyed by the Republican sinophobia (seen on this site as much as anywhere else) by people who don't know anything about China. About 20% of Chinese people call themselves libertarians. I correspond with many Chinese people, and they are far more informed and open minded than the bigoted, tribal, oblivious Americans so confident in their superiority.

China has a smaller, weaker, more decentralized government than the USA both per capita and absolutely. The patriotards are completely unjustified in their assertions of MURICA FIRST, but I suppose being a flaggot and a dumbass go together.

Yeah you are 100% correct, and it is frustrating. I am attempting to have empathy for these people - Americans are bombarded with a huge amount of propaganda and misinformation, so I'm not totally surprised that people get their facts messed up. At the same time, some of us have managed to untangle some of this, and the people lacking critical thinking probably are doing enormous harm to us with their ignorance.

Most people are simply too dumb and uncritical to have any valid epistemic reasons for holding opinions on most things, they should just shut up. But Dumbocracy works by politicizing the least and the dumbest to vote based on their tribal identity and feelings, and ends up corrupting all of social discourse in the process. Most people have zero epistemic right to political, economic or social opinions, they know nothing and are too stupid, bigoted and lazy to learn when they should. Democracy is cultural cancer.
