Of all the many articles about the Kent State shootings, only Ted Diadun’s column provided the full context of the story (“Whatever our politics, events of May 4 haunt all who were there,” May 3). The other columns focus solely on the needless tragedy, and tolerance for peaceful protests. They ignore the factors which created the scenario for the tragedy, including student calls for violence, burning down the ROTC building, and throwing stones. Without a full knowledge of history, we are bound to repeat its mistakes.
