I think "wokeness" is more likely to thrive under someone like Trump, so I'm cautiously hoping things will improve rather than get worse.

Agreed. Without Trump in power as this great bad other/foil to compare themselves against, left wing people in the U.S. have less incentive to not contradict for the purpose of creating the appearance of a united front. So that gives them some breathing room to get out of this not-so-pure purity spiral.

I admit that I wondered if the Reddit banwave was an attempt to unite the left wing, so they were more likely to vote Trump out. I have no idea if it's true but the thought did cross my mind.

I don’t think it is, if they wanted to do that they would have gone after different additional subs (this is directed at Lizzy I don’t get why saidit nesting breaks for me, sorry)

Reddit did go after some far left subs - it wasnt just the massacre of women's spaces back then.

I don't think that's what caused it. I noticed it mostly under Obama's second term, afaik he even called them out once during his terms. It did get much worse during trump, as a result of much of the media amplifying these claims of his bigoted comments and him being a veiled alt-right figure. One would think if parts of this country had a 50-cent army, they would be amplifying these kinds of posts too. And we can't forget BLM started under obama afair, and his administration did way more for Trans peoples than they did for LGB. His comments about marriage over the years (until the supreme court overruled him) are very illuminating (to how many parties we really have in this country).

We just have to really push, and I mean PUSH our elected senators, governors, and house representatives to prohibit gender identity from being added to the equality act. We can do this with petitions, it’s worked before and we can make some more push to get the equality act passed without including gender identity.
