I feel this. It's one of the burdens of being considered part of any minority group. Something that just so happens to be part of who you are is politicized, and everyone wants to pull apart your motivations or assign you with a specific opinion on every and any issue because of stereotypes when you just want to go about your life. Regardless of whether some stereotypes end up being true in my case, it can feel like I'm under a microscope all the time once people know I'm a lesbian.

A lot of this is because people won't stop hijacking or bastardizing lesbianism to serve their political agenda. Lesbian means female homosexual. That's it. It's not a personality trait, it's not something you can identify into, it's just a sexuality.

Yeah absolutely. It's not homophobia or fear of being rejected that's keeping me in the closet, it's just the fear of being seen as "the lesbian" permanently because I'm such a minority and everyone assuming that I'm speaking for all Lesbiankind for the rest of time. There's so much more to me than just who I find attractive. I guess it's a small form of the soft bigotry of low expectations, once people know you're a lesbian that's all they expect you to be.
