i don't understand the big deal about doxxing, personally. when i was a kid, i saw the internet as 'not real' and i treated people in such a way. it completely backfired on me(as it should've), because of course.. people are real. they have real thoughts, feelings, etc. everyone on the internet should act in a way that shows this, but they don't. we've tricked ourselves into thinking being on the internet means we have the right to anonymity and it doesn't. it shouldn't. everyone everywhere should be held accountable for their actions and words, especially if it's directly harmful to people and groups.

back on topic though, fuck bardfinn.

Because then people can stalk you or find a way to harass you on platforms other than reddit. It is a safety issue.

They will show up at your home, or the most popular one, try and get you fired. It’s really not the way to go. I wish everyone would stop doing it in general

Agreed.

i get that, but people have gotten comfortable with harassing and stalking people BECAUSE of the anonymity. you take that away for everyone, you have considerably less instances of it. but i absolutely understand your point.

Can be important in some cases to maintain anonymity such as in cases say where being gay is illegal and punished by death. So having a safe and anonymous space for them is important. And weird shit happens on the internet and has its fair share of crazies so getting your address put out there could mean actual physical danger to you.

Yes, but the problem is that everyone thinks they are right, no matter what side they are on. People are not being held up to some universal morality scale that is measuring “wrongdoing” in a way that everyone else has agreed upon, many people who are being doxxed are being hurt by it, horrible people or no.

Losing jobs and stability in the real world does not inspire anyone to change their way of thinking, it makes their lives worse and them double-down on whatever it was that got them “doxxed” to begin with. IMO, it’s the last thing anyone should be doing if we ever want to be able to coexist with those we disagree with again.

I think it’s bad behaviour on all sides.
