This is objectively bullshit but I like your idealism.

    I concur :)!

I check off so many stereotype boxes. I own a Subaru and a giant truck, nails are always short and filed, shorter hair, own an army of animals, no matter how hard I tried not to ended up U-Hauling on the woman I ended up getting married to, the top row of my closet looks like a supply flannel print shirts to a hoard of people, most of my shoes are in fact boots, and a have a good friend named Stephanie that gets pissed if you don’t call her Steph. I guess some stereotypes are earned.

Isn't the fingernail stereotype because of fingering?

    [–]carrotcake 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Yes i think that's why op mentioned that when she's single she doesn't really bother to trim them

    [–][deleted] 5 insightful - 7 fun5 insightful - 6 fun6 insightful - 7 fun -  (3 children)

I hope she’s got nail clippers in her bag. I took mine to pride. Lol

Anyone else having flashbacks from "Go Fish"?

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

    I haven’t seen that

    [–]MyLongestJourney 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

A legendary lesbian film from the 90s : Go Fish

    Vagina shredders are painful, yes.

Upcoming party at the weekend reminds me - in any gathering of more than two lesbians, someone's ex is going to be there.

    [–]Innisfree 9 insightful - 5 fun9 insightful - 4 fun10 insightful - 5 fun -  (0 children)

Lol this is so good it should have a name! A sort of lesbian Murphy's law. I propose either Sappho's law (she knows all about exes) or Hypatia's law (first female mathematician on record).

When there was a rumor going around that my boss was a lesbian, I looked at her nails and they were long as hell. I was like ain’t no lesbian with nails like that. Then it turned out she was so yeah.

    [–][deleted] 7 insightful - 9 fun7 insightful - 8 fun8 insightful - 9 fun -  (5 children)

She’s probably not good at sex.

    I went there.

    [–]11mile_house 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Well she was married to a man most of her life so maybe she was new to lesbianism.

    [–][deleted] 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

    Or a pillow queen

    [–]WildwoodFlower 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Or she prefers to use toys.

    [–][deleted] 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Also a bad lay, who prefers toys all the time? Yikes

    [–]yousaythosethings 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Even the concept of the "lesbian manicure" doesn't make sense to me. I have need of those other fingers. There's so much you can't do if you limit yourself to two.

    [–][deleted] 13 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I adhere to the short nail one and it’s one of the ways I check to see if a woman is a lesbian. Lololol.

Short HAIR is less true than short nails.

    [–]spirette 12 insightful - 3 fun12 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Wait... lesbians DON'T all have short nails??? :) I mean, that's THE sign that I look for if I have an inkling that a woman might be gay.

Like, straight women can have short nails too but a woman with super manicured and polished long nails is not a lesbian in my experience. No way.

As for other lesbian stereotypes, I love cats, most lesbians I know love cats as well. So many lesbians are vegans/vegetarians. And women who play football (soccer) are very often lesbians (I'm thinking of joining a women's football team in the fall).

    [–]hatsofpotato 5 insightful - 5 fun5 insightful - 4 fun6 insightful - 5 fun -  (1 child)

I've always maintained that there are three "S"s of lesbian sports: soccer, softball, and swimming.

    [–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I have done soccer and swimming but I refused to play softball growing up because it was a girl sport. I would play baseball (not actual games, just pitching and hitting and catching) with neighborhood boys though.

    [–]whateverman 11 insightful - 3 fun11 insightful - 2 fun12 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

I've U-hauled twice. I have short nails. I've had short hair. I love plaid. I've driven a Subaru.

    [–]Innisfree 10 insightful - 3 fun10 insightful - 2 fun11 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

My every weekend is spent DIY-ing, playing guitar, going camping (when I can) and taking motorcycle driving lessons to join the ranks of dykes on bikes. If that's stereotypical - I love it! Also about an hour ago I discovered I enjoy plumbing (occasioned by a blocked drain). Cue plumbing jokes... Lol

    [–][deleted] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Flooded basements are no laughing matter.

    [–]Innisfree 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Indeed, 'tis a mess I will long remember :)

    [–]Poppy29252 10 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I keep my nails short because of my work, I don't like scraping myself on accident, and I find the maintenance of shorter nails easier. For others...I have cats, I have a Subaru, there's probably more.

    [–]RedditHatesLesbians 9 insightful - 4 fun9 insightful - 3 fun10 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

I have short nails because of playing instruments. I wear flannel because I like flannel. That's all lol

    [–]reluctant_commenter 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Also checking in with short nails because of musical instruments and plaid.

    [–]CJLez 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I may or may not have a variety of flannels in my wardrobe.

Also, if I didn't live in a no-pet block of flats I would adopt a couple of cats as soon as I could.

    [–][deleted] 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

all my jewelry is made of hemp and leather.....i like doing mechanic work for fun. own a truck. oh the cats...i've got 3.

    [–]yousaythosethings 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I will preface this by saying I don't think I fit with a lot of the stereotypes. People aren't generally going to think "lesbian" from my appearance.

    • I do my hair and makeup a lot, but there is often a contrast between that and my nails. I've always tended to have short nails and I often have nothing on them at all, even for big events where I'm otherwise dressed formally and glammed up. Short nails are practical for me. I'm too lazy to do my nails most of the time, clumsy, and rough with my hands, and otherwise would be breaking them and having jagged nails. So short nails are the way to go.

    • I do own a few flannels. They're cozy AF. Otherwise, fashion wise I do tend to wear a lot of t-shirts, but not masculine cuts and I don't like showing cleavage. I get a lot of unwanted attention if I do. I do not like padded or push-up bras. I just don't like a lot of material there. I prefer my bras so that if you reach out and me my breasts you can feel the actual shape.

    • I can rock a suit. I feel pretty comfortable in one and I do have to wear one occasionally for my job.

    • I don't have tattoos, but I do have a lot of piercings although because of my job a lot of them are hidden or I have to take out the jewelry. I have a vertical clitoral hood piercing.

    • I am not especially into cats. Not against them though. I just didn't grow up around them. I am a dog person.

    • I own a lot of leather/fake leather.

    • I like hiking and being out in nature.

I know a lesbian that plays acoustic guitar and has one hand with long nails and the other with short nails. Even the truest of the stereotypes isn't always true lol

In general i do fit a lot of stereotypes. I have short nails, short hair, hairy legs, two cats, love to diy and i often use "men's clothes".

Edit: i also wear combat boots a lot and am really good friends with my ex

    [–]Innisfree 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Being good friends with your ex is a great one. It actually warrants its own thread. There's something beautiful about one type of intimacy morphing into another and I think it happens more often in lesbian relationships than in straight ones.

    [–]carrotcake 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Yes! I completely agree with you. And also i would be down for this thread

Not sure about guitars specifically but I feel like lesbians seem musically inclined in general.

      [–]sunzzy 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Glad to know I'm not entirely alone on the nail thing, I love the way long nails look. I'd cut them if I needed to but for now they stay.

      [–][deleted] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I probably qualify as "butch", at least more "butch" than "femme", but I shave my legs and under my arms and wear eye makeup sometimes.

The universe wants me to have short nails though. I don't know if I'm vitamin-deficient or just active and careless, but they will inevitably break themselves the moment they start going past my finger tips.

      [–]TheLesbean 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I have long hair, but like to wear my hair in a bun which makes it seem like I have short hair since my bangs are short. I like to work on cars, repair stuff, woodwork/leatherwork, DIY, and get my hands dirty, but I also like to cook, sew clothes, and paint my nails every now and then. I have cats...I own an eco friendly vehicle...environmentally conscious and do my best to recycle...but I’m not vegan/vegetarian. I eat everything including vegan and vegetarian foods... mmmm yeah. That’s about it
