I lurked there too, for a very long time, mainly because I didn't want to get harassed on my main account (several years old) just for participating. I got denied to rejoin, which I totally understand given the current climate there...ironically I would have felt safer posting in the private community. Hopefully when the drama dies down it may be safer for them to open it up again...meanwhile I'm very thankful for this community (and spinster) and hope it grows to be an active and safe space here for lesbians. Even as a lurker on TL it felt like one of the last few safe spaces to be a "part" of.

Is there a lesbian only community on Spinster?

Not per se. Spinster works more like twitter, it's just a big site that doesn't have communities and forums etc. But it's very easy to find lesbians to follow, and if you only want to follow lesbian accounts it's very easy to do that. There are a lot of lesbians on spinster, and in some ways it's nicer there as a lot of them are very outspoken.

what was the story with brigading? Was that happening just before TL had to go private? Eh, I haven't been added back either, and as far as I know I shouldn't have any reason not to be added. A lot of TL's value was that it was a publicly visible space that lesbians could find once they got sick of being bullied by men in the other lesbian subs. It provided a different narrative to the all-lesbians-are-fine-with-TWAW and that's the reason it was targeted. The only way the Queer/TRA movement works is by suppressing alternative viewpoints. As much as possible we have to try to keep having a visible presence publicly, even if that's hard. (Not saying the mods shouldn't have privatised, just saying there needs to be other visible resistance).

I remember reading your story before.

I'm just as frustrated as you. I'm so sick and tired of not having lesbian spaces for homosexual biological women. I go in dykesgonemild/wild and have to see gross dicks or men who think they pass as women who expect us to pretend clap and upvote them and compliment them to let them know they're strong/brave and valid UwU. I just want our own space.

I also didn't have a post history on TL and got rejected too. Hopefully this space will grow though! I don't really have a reason to be on Reddit anymore anyway.

The thing is while perhaps many have good intentions but what has happened on Monday is something that is quite unique to us and we are in a very precarious position where, at the moment, we would rather err on the side of caution at the moment. At the time of closure, there were almost 15k users. Given that our sub had activity of about 300 users tops per day, we are facing a lot of empty profiles or profiles we cannot trust at the moment. It is hurtful, yes, again we are erring on the side of caution as we try to get it back up. This is hopefully not a permanent situation, but one we have to be in while we sort things out. While you dislike being shut out, we are also disliking going through every profile and making tough calls. Understand that it is not meant to be callous.

I lurked there too. I also asked the mods to go back in, but because I didn't comment and only lurked, I was also rejected.

This morning I got a coffee and instinctively wanted to check new posts on TL. And then the harsh reality hit me:( The next second I thought "oh, but I still got Saidit, life is good". Despite all the negative things that are happening now, I am happy we got this sub and happy to see it grow!

I'm with you. As a total lurker I feel totally shut out, but can't blame them all the same. But if they're denying you for posting on a bi sub once despite ample evidence of being a lesbian, then it feels like they are changing TL to something extremely exclusive (gold star only?), instead of just a safe space for women who love women. Hope this sub gains some traction.

" But if they're denying you for posting on a bi sub once despite ample evidence of being a lesbian, then it feels like they are changing TL to something extremely exclusive (gold star only?)" Lol what a massive reach, it has nothing to do with being a gold star. Maybe you don't want to admit it but it looks sus af if someone's been posting in bi subs while trying to gain access access lesbian subs. There were bi women who would try to post on TL and you could tell they weren't lesbians from their post history (which typically involves bi subs), so it's not surprising that the mods would be wary. You're being way too sensitive lmfao.

I'm trusting the OP when she says her history makes it clear that she's a lesbian. Plus I seem to recall that TL did allow bi women if they were in a homosexual relationship, might be wrong there though. I'm definitely making assumptions but I wouldn't say it's a massive reach based on the given information

They used to but they stopped because the mods realized it was a shitty policy and they made the sub lesbians only (like a lesbian sub should be).

I really don't think that's what they're doing. The Lesbian community was attacked as well as other subs for basically wanting to practice free speech. The mods need to be careful with one of few last remaining subs for Lesbians. I'm sure in time it will open back up, but I'd rather they take the measures they are right now so TL can stay alive.

Fair point, and I can't imagine what it's like to be in their position. I'm not so optimistic that they can open up anytime soon, but hopefully in tjme

Well I was certainly wrong here!

Hi! I'm sorry to hear that. I'm one of the approved users, but well, I'm still in shock to be honest and obviously the activity on the sub has dropped down. It's not a matter of if, but when that sub will get banned... :/

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I was wondering, as I was just a lurker on truelesbians and I'm not a Reddit expert, if making a sub private could prevent a ban, generally speaking. I mean, if it's not open to the casual/potential readers it cannot have (sarcastic tone) a "bad influence" on them, which is what TRAs fear, I guess. What do you think? Does censorship have something to do with the potential readers? In other words, is truelesbians safer this way or not?

[–]catsuneko 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

The admins can still see private subs (and ban them), but having TL private will prevent TRAs from brigading and mass reporting posts. So in a way it is safer because the TRAs can't access it but there's still the risk of being banned since they already started reporting before it went private.

Understood, thanks!
