Interesting article, but how does this relate to corporate neo-feudalism?

Also, although the tips are good, I've been pretty self-reliant for ages to my knowledge, as a teen/tween too, but still got depressed.

I was really having trouble finding a sub to fit this in - and given the poignant Emerson quote, I thought at least it KIND of fits here...

Do not take this advice. The spirit of the message is principled, but the outcome will be disastrous.

Do not listen to #1.

That makes us afraid of confrontation. Instead of being timid, stand up right and say what you think without reservation.

Also, never shy away from confrontation. If you want to have a voice in the world, you can’t expect that will happen smoothly.

To practice this, for the next few weeks, don’t shy away from verbal confrontation with others. Not in an aggressive way. But when you don’t agree with something; say it.

This is the worst real-world advice ever.

Subordinate lesson 1 to lesson 2. Don't mouth off to the cops, a judge, your asshole boss, etc. This is horrible advice.

Most important lesson is #2..

2. Learn how to master your emotions.
