Even older tech like televisions are to blame in part. People watching TV don't have neighbourhood block parties. Families around the family TV got divided as sets became affordable. Then kids aren't on the same page or channel as their parents.
It's all social engineering to weaken communities and families, because it's easier to control individuals than organized groups of resistance.
