I listened to another NPR show today, one on drag, and, predictably, it was trans all the way. I listened to as much as I could stomach, and I was struck by how much these people can talk without really saying anything. It's all word salad made up of words like queer, community, trans, youth, gender, gender expression, journey, safe space, etc... There's no critical examination of what exactly it all means as a social phenomenon. It's just taken for granted that a "journey of exploring your gender" is a good thing, as though we all know exactly what that means. And it's NPR, so no one will ask any probing questions. It's all just celebratory.
