I guess years will pass and you will have more trans influencers coming out as detrans.

I do believe there are people who experience gender dysphoria and they deserve help but more options should be explored for them. Activists screaming how transition is the only good treatment is anti-scientific because a lot of time something considered to be "good" turned out not to ne and alternatives were found. Activists cannot stomach this.

I remember the Lady Valor documentary coming out several years ago. He is very high-profile, and I am curious if he is getting any sort of blowback.

Other articles about his detransition talk about the eagerness of his therapist to diagnose him as trans. I am wondering when this shift took place in the therapeutic community, because there used to be a much more drawn-out process to undergoing any sort of medical procedures. From my understanding, one was supposed to live "as a wo/man" for about a year before hormones and surgery were ever on the table. Not that I really believe those things are really a solution, but holy shit, the ease at which people are being put on these drugs and then going in for surgery within the year is staggering.

In my experience they TiMs are insanely conniving and manipulative. While I'm no fan of the psychs and doctors approving these things, I have no doubt they only share the blame with the raging narcissists they're dealing with.

There have always been people in the trans community who are against transition being gatekept. On Susan's Place, it was really common to discuss how to lie to gender therapists so that you're given what you want. There was also an underground list of therapists who would fasttrack you to medical transition without a year of RLE (similar to Plume or Folx, but more underground) and an underground list of DIY HRT providers.

I feel that trans health care is having its "pill mill" moment. Much like the scandal of opiates being overprescribed by certain doctors, there is now scrutiny of gender identity care both in the UK and USA, specifically around 1) the age of the patients being given these treatments; 2) the ease at which these treatments can be given; and 3) the lack of "gatekeeping." On the last point specifically, there are people who have incredibly unrealistic expectations as to the outcome of the surgeries they are getting, and they are basically being told to sign waivers to cover the doctors' asses.

There is a doctor in Florida who is getting some attention right now, Sibdh Gallagher. She was featured on the Jazz Jennings reality show, and has become famous for advertising her services through TikTok ("yeet the teats").

I'm reminded of the news stories of black market procedures in which trans women would check into a motel and some guy would inject their buttocks with industrial silicone. It's the same sort of thing, preying on deeply disturbed individuals who do not truly understand what they are getting themselves into. Only this time it is given a sheen of respectability, referred to as "life saving care."
