I’ve started to think that my being a lesbian was something that they couldn’t wrap their heads around in the binary world (along with anti-feminist media some relatives consume, demonizing butch lesbians and gay men) that led to them treating me poorly, but that’s seemed to almost change overnight after coming out as trans. Now I’m “one of the boys” and fit more comfortably into their binary idea of the world, so they’re a lot kinder to me.

Actually one of the most sane and self-aware posts I've ever seen on a trans subreddit. She's so close to making the mental connection to conversion therapy, yet somehow it escapes her.

Interesting to read others in that thread describing how they're concerned about shifting attitudes and tenuous loyalties in the LGBTQ-whatever community. It's almost like building an identity on a foundation of unreality and wedding oneself to an ideology in which the goalposts are constantly shifting is an inherently unstable proposition.
