I wonder when the tipping point will come when there are so many “trans kids” that the Munchausen moms will realize they’ll get more attention for having a detrans kid.

LOL. You know, I got a little bit of that vibe from this article. I hate to be cynical but it just seemed so focused on the parent's experiences of the events she put her child through and not on what the child's perspective must have been.

TLDR: Very disturbing story about how two parents-- who are ostensibly "queer" women-- decided to transition their two toddler-aged sons, and then detransitioned their sons several years later.

The parent is apologetic and I am glad that they reversed course, but some of the language in this piece is nonetheless unnerving, even apart from the ideological fervor.

Some quotes that jumped out at me:

Malpractice - Gender therapist made completely unsubstantiated claims, framed as a threat, about the "trans" child:

When I pushed back, and asserted that I was not yet convinced our younger son was transgender, she [the gender therapist] told me that if I did not change his pronouns and honor his identity, he could develop an attachment disorder.

This parent uses strange language to describe her son's emotions. This phrasing struck me and made me wonder if she is still vicariously living through him to some extent, even if she did detransition him:

Then the next day, I felt my son rest. I felt him release a burden, lay this adult burden down, that he, as a child, was never meant to carry. He felt incredible relief. He came to rest.

Sounds like she's talking about how she feels... I hope she is listening to how he feels.

Throughout the article, the author keeps using this phrase:

the primal attachment drives

I mean, attachment theory is a thing but no one talks about it like that. I'm wondering what the hell else this woman picked up in terms of wacky beliefs.

The last paragraph about leaving the old worldview behind and rebuilding from the ground up sounds exactly like how I felt when I left my religion. And I don't think that's a coincidence.

Also the requirement of friends and family to fully approve of the transition or they lose all contact with the kid is very culty.

I feel that way about having left Catholicism, too. (Sorry to hear you had to go through that experience, too; I still feel like I haven't fully processed mine.)

It's always crazy to me how many parallels there are between religious groups and trans ideology. The only thing missing is an explicit belief in a god. TRAs basically believe in souls, they just call them "gender identities."

Also the requirement of friends and family to fully approve of the transition or they lose all contact with the kid is very culty.

Yes. My first thought.
