Because they were never lesbians, they just wanted to be special so pretended to be lesbians. I doubt many of them ever even had sex with women. Lesbians are no longer cool(we're evil TERFs) and it's all about trans now and these straight women can stop pretending to be attracted to women.

I think for most there was some level of being aware of their desire for men and yet calling themselves lesbians for a variety of reasons (both push and pull factors) but it’s important to note that this is also a group characterized by black and white (lol BINARY) thinking. Feel any degree of attraction to women = lesbian. Have an emotionally fraught relationship with the male sex? Again, lesbian. In their minds.

I think it's straight or bisexual women who were incredibly turned off by the heterosexual relationships and included gender roles that they saw. So they convinced themselves they were lesbian as a way to avoid having to participate in that dynamic, and then after "transition" felt that they could be with men without being treated as "lesser"/inherently submissive/a possession etc.

It's a theory, anyway.

Regarding your title-- here's my theory, from the last time this got brought up:

The whole “testosterone made me want dick” phenomenon is so weird.

Yeah that really makes no sense to me. The only mechanism I could see that happening through, logically, is:

  1. woman is unaware of, denies, or downplays her interest in men/dick

  2. woman starts on testosterone

  3. testosterone heightens sexual arousal

  4. woman is suddenly more aware of her sexual arousal and what she actually wants-- which is dick

  5. "testosterone made me want dick!" when the picture is more complicated than that.

I kind of wonder, if just dosing testosterone changed sexual orientation, then homophobes probably would've been doing that to gay/bisexual women for ages already...

I think I would add to that list:

  • male-biased sexism ("everyone must want dick more!")

  • confused lesbians getting some wires crossed. (For example, I have felt pressured to 1. be straight / pretend I am a straight man, and 2. be attracted to males. Had I ended up transitioning, I might have tried to compensate for both these cognitive distortions and and ended up claiming I was a "gay trans man.")

  • a good old-fashioned placebo effect.

It makes more sense when you understand that the women doing this are likely completely out of touch with their bodies. It's way easier to force yourself to do things that make you feel physically sick when you are used to ignoring the sensation of feeling physically sick. And one common thing that makes people feel physically sick... is abuse, particularly sexual abuse/assault which are very common among people who want to transition, lesbians included.

Excellent comment. Yes, this is what happens when people out of touch with their bodies start taking an exogenous hormone that heightens their sensations and desires making them harder to ignore or write off as something else, which they had been doing up to that point.

One of the comments there actually makes a decent point if you change 1 word.

When you start to live as a guy, you become more removed from the uncomfortable and degendering degrading experience of receiving sexual attention from straight men. Then you slowly learn to stop suppressing the part of you that desires intimacy with men because your interactions with men are no longer tinted by that dysphoric anxiety. Your fear goes away because you can now be confident that men who are interested in you aren't expecting you to be something you're not.

Person seems oblivious because wtf even is "degendering" but they might be feeling the specific effects of existing as the female gender in a society with men who objectify women as sexual objects.

They are also probably acting like the TRA version of political lesbians. They only care about the trendy identity of being seen as gay and somehow manage to reject their entire sexuality in order to be seen as gay but sexuality is a strong instinct. They can't resist that urge so they pretend to be a man in order to maintain the gay identity and also avoid the perception that all straight men are awful. The fact that they feel more comfortable with gay men is just based on their own stereotype of what they think gay men are.

Late to the thread,but I agree with what the others wrote. The most plausible explanation is they were never homosexual.They were just bisexual womem who called themselves lesbian in order to sound cool.

This might be a similar phenomenon to the AGPs who "suddenly" become attracted to men once they start transition.

It is because HRT changed their sexuality? Nope! It's part of the fetish, because they think a integral part of being a women is to fucked by men.

The difference here is that she had her vision of what a men is shaped by yaoi, mlm fanfiction and tumblr, which makes her think that malehood is linked with being gay.
