This was fucking everything that needed to be said.

My exact thought.

Well, on one side it's quite tragic how gay men are being expelled of spaces and movements they themselves created, but on the other hand I believe it's for the best.

"LGBTQwhatever" spaces have become cesspools of narcissism and attention whores who want to be "special" without having to put any effort into it.

It's funny and ironic how GSAs here barely have any gay men or lesbians attending. For the surprise of no one it is now mostly populated with gender specials and spicy straights.

This is awesome. I've suspected that Bill was never down with the gender stuff but wasn't able to be open about it on HBO. Very significant to see that changing.

It was so great too see, we need even more people to speak out

Its not that he wasn't down with it but he has people like dan savage com on and explain the "official LGBTQ opinions" to him and the normies. So he's listening to dan savage explain enby and trying to keep an open mind like a good liberal, but he doesn't realize how may of US don't like the gender b.s.

Dan Savage was basically cancelled in the past for making mild jokes about T.

I wonder if he will get as many rape threats as JK Rowling.

[–]reluctant_commenter 9 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 0 fun10 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Probably not, because he's a man.

"bUt sHe'S a bIlLiOnAiRe!1!1!!" As if a woman having a certain amount of money makes it okay to threaten to rape her.

Also the target of his commentary was a FtM.

Yup, that's a relevant factor too.

Here's the ACLU's most vocal embarrassment complaining about Maher not seeing her as a gay man and getting ratioed nicely:

This is a great segment. May it peak everyone who sees it.

Yup, this is quite the interesting development today. On the Twitter post of this video there are quite a few prominent GC women offering to talk to him next. I hope he's reading those replies.

I like all the comments telling him to educate himself, as if the clip didn't just demonstrate that he did educate himself on the topic before talking about it.

Yep. They sensed the wind shift, hurriedly thumbed through their books of cult doctrine looking for a leg to stand on, and are impotently (I'm sure you can see what I did there) wagging their fingers at him. Poor babies.

LITERALLY! It's so freaking hypocritical, it drives me insane. Like, go check out all the sources he just named in the video!!!

Damn, Bill really has peaked, and I really enjoyed his takedown of Chase Strangio, working for the ACLU and championing suppression of ideas at the same time.

Bill is savage.

He is the reason why mommy drinks everyday and daddy has two cell phones 🙃

Mahler has clearly rejected the woke, at least on this subject. Mostly well written, other than the "Trans is innate" thing. I'll take what I can get for now.

Semi-related, but I had a conversation yesterday with my friend(who's quite a bit more liberal than I am) about the gender stuff for the first time. The talk made me feel more optimistic about the future, as they're not down the rabbit hole of this subject like I am, but still easily recognized the nonsense.

They're a Teacher-Librarian in an elementary school and they have to introduce "integral" books talking about the gender spectrum, which they personally think is a bunch of woo woo. They said a better approach would be to recognize and teach that it's fine for males and females to have varied ways of presenting and behaving that are not typical of their sex. I added that this is known as gender non-conformity and even "typical" gender presentation/behavior changes over the ages.

I also suggested that gender is basically a kind of contemporary personality typing used by the younger gens, and that identifying as enby was a way of escaping from sex stereotyping. And they seemed to be agreement with me about this. We didn't get into how gender labels are being used by sexual opportunists yet, but maybe next time.

Yup, I cringed when he said that. The science isn't there; all the "trans brain differences" disappear once homosexuality is controlled for...

That's great! Wish I had more people like that in my life. Sounds like your friend has some solid critical thinking and/or observational skills.

I think I got lucky. People who possess an overall skeptical bent helps; Those who are curious and naturally ask a lot of questions(and I don't mean bad faith ones like "Would you do a trans person?"). Maybe with an intrinsic interest in the hard sciences. Because there hasn't been any concrete results from all the trans studies to remotely satisfy that type of person, imo.

Gender theory is a pseudo-science for which its- not hypothesis, but conclusion(that biological sex is socially constructed and anyone whose behavior falls outside the cultural expectations of their "assigned" gender are trans or some other frustratingly intangible identity) is made first, then it's practitioners pick and arrange the empirical data(usually from flawed gathering methodology) around the conclusion to support it.

So, actual skeptics(not the woke missionaries that many in the atheist/skeptic community sadly morphed into to stay culturally relevant to the younger gens) are naturally repelled by this kind of belief system no matter their age or politics and will resist it, even if just in private.

This is amazing! I haven't really watched Bill Maher before, but he absolutely nailed it. And I'm so glad he emphasized the utter lack of scientific evidence and referenced all of the changes in medical guidance in Sweden, France and other countries!!!

Are we finally starting to hit the mainstream in the US?? Hopefully other influential people here will be emboldened to speak up, too.

Also, I had to pause the video at his "nut allergy" joke because I was laughing so hard.

He is on HBO because he was a bit too spicy for regular TV but he became much more mainstream over the years and had "liberal brain" until recently. Basically he was too forgiving of the democratic party and corporate position on things. The type of person who thinks he's still on the left but repeats a bunch of right wing democrat talking points. More recently he seems to have rebounded out of that rut. This segment actually surprised me though with how far you have to push away the conventional wisdom to be willing to say this.
