Meh, trans people do exist and if this guy's a good actor for the role then he deserves it as much as anyone. I'll be rolling my eyes at or skipping over any pro-trans preaching much like I did with Star Trek Discovery's nonbinary character, though. But there's no reason to assume it'll be like that.

My view is that if I can pretend Gatwa is a time-travelling, shape-shifting alien then I can pretend Finney is a woman.

They do exist and if it were any other time in history I wouldn't do more than roll my eyes in passing. But when every virtue signalling organisation and media outlet, including former LGB ones, is using transbians to promote International Lesbian Day, I seriously doubt he's been chosen for his acting skills.

Well yes I think it's safe to assume that Russell T Davies wanted a trans person in the role, since he takes every opportunity he can get to boost LGB and TQ+ actors, but that doesn't mean the actor is terrible any more than his casting of all gay actors in It's A Sin meant they were bad actors (because they absolutely were not).

As a gay man I'm just very wary of saying that simply including a trans actor/character is pushing an agenda. I will reserve judgment until I've seen the show.
