Or maybe it will be the end of pronouns in bio girls because they will flee to Tumblr where they came from.

I saw a Babylon Bee article yesterday saying that all the TQ+ radicals are fleeing to Myspace.

What i really want is it to make it really hard for your account to get permanently suspended, I'm tired of people working really hard to build up there platforms only to have to walk on eggshells wondering if there account will be permanently suspended. I'm very excited about Elon taking over :)

TQ homophobia was already running rampant on Twitter. I reported most of what I saw and the only few that actually had results were ones with direct threats in them.

Musk's takeover likely means a lot more of regular homophobia though. I guess we can take screenshots of homophobic tweets and play "conservative or TQ?"

I was actually thinking of starting a sub like this, if people are interested. Maybe I'll do a few pilot run posts on this sub first...

Tbh, I think they already practice a fair amount of open homophobia without many repercussions. The real solution to their hate to allow people to actually counter it without getting suspended, banned, or algorithmically demoted. I hope for the return of censored users like Fred Sargeant and Graham Linehan. They wouldn't need the site stepping in to protect their fee fees. They are capable handling attacks themselves if you let them.

Edit: Reaction from LGBTQ+

Hell, if they leave, I'll join it. Lesbian women get banned from Reddit whenever we talk about being gay. Maybe Twitter will be more hospitable.

Hopefully. It's very chaotic now so it's difficult to predict what kind of company culture and culture in general it will eventually settle into.

I have to check my enthusiasm, because I've been disappointed before. But I have my fingers crossed that maybe this time there'll be a popular mainstream platform whose average userbase and management is not ideologically extremist- where I won't get roundly suspended without recourse for innocuously expressing observations of reality that the unstable narcissists of society can deem to be violence or hate speech.

Mainly short-term euphoria because of the collective meltdown of the authoritarian left, and their unabashed display of hypocrisy regarding social media platforms and free speech. But let's not kid ourselves. "We" (LGBdroptheT, Gender Criticals, Radfems and everything inbetween) and the "new heralds of free speech" (Musk, Chappelle.. or even Trump for some) aren't "on the same side". Remember, for the rest of the world, we're ALL just The Community™. And our perceived infighting is met with indifference at best, but mostly incomprehension and amusement. We're all those crazy Feminists™, the Gays™. JKR is disliked on both sides of the aisle. They don't understand the diametrically opposed positions of "Terfs" and "TRAs". Chappelle defended Rowling by ultimately misinterpreting her entire stance. "Gender is real" goes against everything we say, yet the majority claps.

The best we can hope for is for Twitter to stop the estimated 50% bots on the platform, and the problem of the countless sock puppet accounts of the no-life TRAs. Also, I hope for a fair treatment of all opinions when it comes to the algorithm. Why is it that a TRA response with 2 likes under a JK Rowling/LGB Alliance/GC tweet is listed higher than a supporting tweet with 2000 likes? I'd like to know the logic.

Maybe we can hope for LGB Alliance to get their checkmark. There will not be much change for us otherwise. We'll still be the target of misinformation and bullying.

And I DREAD the upcoming "Musk derangement syndrome". You just know it's gonna happen. Nobody will leave Twitter, no. They'll all stay and tweet for years to come about this billionaire who is destroying their lives. Social media is a blight on society, sure; but it was THEIR blight to use for their advantage. Now that this is (seemingly) changing, we're going to witness in real time how private social media platforms are going to get blamed for everything bad in the world. We'll see politics getting involved. I wouldn't be surprised if the near future, social media will be turned into a public asset because of its "newly discovered" importance and undoubted influence on society. But not without new "hate speech" laws, of course...

He seems to lean left but is obviously believes in free speech so I don't think there will be much censorship, which is a good thing. There may be more homophobia, but we and everyone who doesn't believe in gender ideology will now not have to worry about when a ban is coming, unless they are calling for violence against the t. Both sides being free to speak and debate ideas on twitter is not a bad thing, it certainly helped LGB get where we are in the west.

The big issue is not musk but the people who are in charge of reviewing complaints, handing out suspensions and bans, etc. I suspect it's just the blue haired sjw crowd right now, so he will have to replace them with more middle of the road thinkers. Otherwise they can just ignore what he wants for thwe company and still ban the little accounts that wlll fly under the radar.

Could all be moot as now democrats are looking to reinstate censorship with section 230, because they lost control of twitter as their safe space.

I don't know what to think of it as of yet. I think Elon Musk is a horrible person with a lot of bootlickers and it's really going to depend on what his idea of "free speech" is.

As a Tumblr user this is kind of upsetting because it means there's inevitably going to be another mass migration of extreme TRAs/SJWs from Twitter back to Tumblr. Which really really sucks. Tumblr still has a hardcore leftist/ TRA userbase but it was starting to mellow out somewhat after the porn ban caused so many SJWs to leave. So like Tumblr was just starting to get a bit more bearable and now all the insane TRAs who left will probably be coming back. God damn it.

It is kind of funny though how all the SJWs are having a meltdown over how Twitter is "going to allow sexism, white supremacy, homophobia, and transphobia to run rampant now!!!!11". Bitch, Twitter has already been allowing sexism and homophobia to run rampant, as long as the straight men espousing it use funny pronouns and wear frocks. And considering that they think "white supremacy" = being homosexual and "transphobia" = asking any questions whatsoever, I'd say they deserve the incoming "white supremacy" and "transphobia".

This was exactly my reaction. I appreciate your concision, lol.

Oh, wow, do you really think so? I've only used Tumblr as a lurking (searching the tags, for example, which I'm guessing most regular Tumblr users don't do, lol). I'm curious to see what sort of changes might happen over there.

You should check out the #twitter and #muskpocalypse tags on Tumblr. We're definitely already getting Twitter "refugees". I've already seen posts like "Hey, dusting off the old Tumblr blog after the Twitter takeover" and "Hey made an account here after escaping Twitter". There's also already been Tumblr loyalists making memes about how we need to drive back the Twitter "refugees"/"colonizers". There's definitely already been a migration of Twitter users to Tumblr, I'm just really hoping the porn ban will continue to deter a lot of them. And I hope the Tumblr staff stays strong in their conviction to keep a ban on porn and don't succumb to the screeching of new Twitter users to bring it back.

Thank you, will take a look!! Wow. I am really curious to see how this plays out. My first experiences of Tumblr were in 2019-2020, when I was curious about the LGBT community, knowing nothing about it, and encountered post after post saying some version of, "#kill terfs #choke a terf #girlcock is beautiful #commit suicide terfs" etc. Shocked me. Ironically, I probably never would've ventured to LGBDroptheT if it weren't for all those posts. But when I looked at Tumblr a few weeks ago again, it seemed like there were fewer of those posts. So I'm curious to see if it gets worse again with the Twitter migration.

Maybe r/TumblrInAction will actually start being about Tumblr again, lol.

There is already open homophobia from the TQ crowd on Twatter (not a typo). And people who call on it,get banned,no matter how diplomatic and polite they are at phrasing their objection.

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of Elon Musk. Sure, he supports freedom of speech; at least he claims he does. But those claims don't appear to live up to reality. He co-founded PayPal, which censors people. He wants everyone to have chips planted into them, which I'm not in favour of because it affects our right to privacy. Space X and Tesla got a lot of funds from the American federal government during the pandemic while small and medium businesses were going bankrupt because they were not allowed to trade. Finally, did you notice that Jack Dorsey, who loves censorship, supports Musk buying Twitter? Sounds sketchy to me. Needless to say, I'm not a fan of Elon Musk at all.

But then again, maybe this buyout could lead to bigger and better things for us. Less censorship and more debate on sensitive topics on a large platform would be useful for our cause. But I remain sceptical for now. Sure, the woke mob are whinging over the buyout, but they whinge over whatever the media tells them to whinge about. These people lack original thought; they are literally NPCs.

Well if people wish to say such things they are free to. I mean ideally Musk isn't lying and will be totally committed to allowing people to say anything as long as it isn't illegal. Basically making direct personal threats or posting say like CP or something is the only thing that should get you banned.

Should be equally true for "transphobic" remarks. Still I am not worshiping at the altar of Elon. He does have to operate Twitter like a businesses. I just hope it's a bit more lax.

Honestly, unless he takes over and then immediately shuts it down, I don't care. Twitter's never going to stop being shitty. Social media's never going to stop being shitty. There's no "fixing" Twitter or Facebook or TikTok or Reddit or what-have-you.

Hard to say how it's going to pan out. What are the parameters of the free speech he's espousing? Is posting child pornography free speech? Is advocating violence or war or genocide free speech? The QT+ brigade are certainly going to have a meltdown about losing their ability to deplatform anyone who offends their fragile sensibilities. They already are. But what it all means for the future of Twitter, who can say.

I'm not really concerned about open homophobia on Twitter. I just don't want them to pretend they're "LGBTQ+ friendly" while promoting homophobia and prohibiting important fact-based discussions from happening. I think the speech restrictions need to be narrowly tailored and more focused on threats of violence. I think it's probably impossible to roll back that which has made Twitter so cancerous though. It's just not a place for engaging in thoughtful nuanced dialogue. Jonathan Haidt gets into this in his recent article "WHY THE PAST 10 YEARS OF AMERICAN LIFE HAVE BEEN UNIQUELY STUPID".

[–]reluctant_commenter 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's just not a place for engaging in thoughtful nuanced dialogue.

It does seem like Twitter, of all social media outlets, may be particularly bad in this regard just because there's such a limit on writing length. Almost all of my best experiences on Saidit-- discussions that I learned from, that changed my perspective, or that allowed me and a conversation partner to really open up with each other-- all involved much longer chunks of texts than... what... 140 chars is the limit? Amount/length of communication is often the "least common denominator" when it comes to communicating nuance.

My biggest hope for the platform is for him to make very simple, easy to understand rules, like no doxxing or threatening physical violence, ect, but actually enforcing it for everyone, not just the people he disagrees with. Lets be real, we aren’t the ones doxxing people so maybe 1 or 2 of our crowd woulf get banned, but imagine the hoards of TRA’s who publish addresses and “cyber-lynch” people, they’d be kicked to the curb

[–]chazzstrong 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I'm of the belief that 'free speech' means the people you don't like have the right to tell you what you don't want to hear. Free speech MUST be absolute. If you only want to hear people who are FOR same-sex attraction and not those who are against it, then you don't believe in free speech. It's just that simple. Same with trans weirdos. Their views and beliefs need to be allowed onto an OPEN platform so people can successfully dissect and dismantle their hate and expose it for exactly what it is. They won't be a protected class on Elon's Twitter.

[–]millicentfawcett 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

In the UK I think it means more people will be getting reported to the police for hate speech if they have no recourse on Twitter to punish people for saying "women don't have penises" or whatever other reality driven speech triggers them. How the police will respond remains to be seen but we don't have a good track record on that so far.

How else it will play out I'm not sure. I agree with others that governments, mostly the US will try to interfere having found a rekindled love for Section 230 and other means to make Musk play ball with them.

Whatever happens I'm sure it will be popcorn worthy!

He is supposedly removing the advertisement based model by taking it private. A large portion of the performative wokeness in corporate decision making is a side effect of everyone thinking that they need to appease some constant outrage machine for fear of losing advertisers. With a privately owned social media, they can finally change the algorithm to push content which is best for the user rather than being required to maximize "engagement".

The model has been pushing users to fight with each other just enough to sit on the platform all day seeing advertisements but then also banning posts and users which would have a chance to scare away those advertisers which require the users to be fighting.

[–]reluctant_commenter 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Interesting observations. I did see that he suggested removing ads, but then where will the money come from?

[–]Q-Continuum-kin 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

You can still have advertisements, just not have the entire website designed to maximize engagement.

Right now the "customer" is the advertisers and the users are actually the product.

With a publicly traded company they are actually legally obligated to maximize profits for shareholders. They end up creating some really bad outcomes for the users because they are trying to maximize advertising income.

You can redesign the algorithm to favor the users and still generate profit from advertisers... Just not the maximum possible income. The way the stock market is in general is just really shitty for companies all around. It doesn't allow for a company to be just consistently profitable with mild fluctuations and to reinvest into itself on good years. The market forces companies to do things like stock buybacks were all the profits are siphoned off by shareholders.
