Tbf, they're mimicking other minority/marginalized groups who are considered undesirable by "top tier" groups. We all know racism/colorism/xenophobia, classism, ageism, ableism, "fatphobia", etc (even zodiac sign hatred lol I was recently rejected by a Capricorn when I told her I'm a Gemini 🤣) are whined about a lot by people who can't date who they wanna date lol "transphobia" is just something else being whined about... "cis people" are the prejudiced bigots.

Ok but if someone is obsessed with the star signs and rejects me for being born a certain month, I think they’re just as looney as the alphabet people so they did you a favor

I have been exposed via family members to very very technical astrology, the kind that involves a lot of math and years of study. It may or may not work, but from that perspective, anybody who rejects you simply because of where the Sun was when you were born (as opposed to the roughly 100 other factors that are considered in that world) is clearly demonstrating ignorance. Popular astrology only talks about the Sun sign because no calculation is necessary to know it. But -- again from the perspective of technical astrology -- rising and Moon signs are actually more important.

Astrology is a pseudoscience.

Sure... but some people invest very deeply in it. Even from their perspective, categorizing people into 12 boxes and then making assumptions based on those categories is stupid.

Edit: I'll add something that is worth mentioning. Clearly the position of planets shouldn't seem to have any bearing on your fate, though I've had it explained to me and I am always open to other perspectives. What I have observed from people who take it seriously -- whatever your opinion about planets is -- is a very nuanced view of psychodynamics. Perhaps the technical factors are simply an armature to hang psychological intuition? In any case, the people I know who believe in it seem to be able to arrive, relatively quickly, at a relatively deep understanding of another person's inner workings. Just my observation...

This isn't the place to explain why astrology is a pseudoscience or why untrained people are fooled to believe it works. There are plenty of resources in skeptics sites which explain this in full detail. Personally I wouldn't even have sex with a woman who is seriously into astrology and/or other woo woo. It is a ladyboner killer for me.

For every legit science there always seems to be some 'Healing Crystal' counterpart to it (e.g. Astronomy, Geology, Ecology, etc.) And for Biology you have the gender thing..

So true! And, really, this applies to the legit positions/beliefs that people hold, too, doesn't it? And legit criticisms they make? Because, no matter how sound one form of this is... there's always another COMPLETELY misinterpreting it, and going off in the wrong, often woo-woo, direction.

As an American, I can't help but think of what happened to our mental health system... there were undercover exposes during the 1960s that revealed-- on film, yet-- the shocking, "snake-pit"-like conditions in so many of our state mental hospitals; naturally the public was horrified, and demanded their legislators put a stop to it. THAT part? Legit.

But then... along came some left-wing activist-dude who had, as an article of faith, the belief that there was no such thing as mental illness. Like, at ALL. Only people who were eccentric free spirits. And thus would be TOTALLY FINE if we just left them alone! To do their delusional/paranoid/seeing-and-hearing-shit-that-ain't-there thing. So who even NEEDS mental hospitals anyway? Don't BOTHER reforming them, making them places of effective, humane treatment and healing... let's just close 'em all down!

And... that's pretty much what we did.

Sounds a lot like the whole transgenderism thing, doesn't it? Legit element (criticism of appalling conditions in state mental hospitals; women's & LGB rights) hijacked by woo-woo (mental illness doesn't exist; biological sex doesn't exist)... and thus rendered illegitimate. In the most horrifyingly destructive way.

Which only goes to show, I suppose, the importance of learning to separate the wheat from the chaff... and how rare that skill actually is.

There's a lot of extreme reactions when it comes to apparently dichotomous situations, where the solution to an unbalanced state seems to always be to- Go as far to the opposite side as humanly possible to make up for it. For example: Some people over-discipline and even plain abuse their kids. So, let's learn from that behavior to prevent it from happening again in the future. So far so good. But then.. lets react to the past mistreatment(perhaps done to the parent themselves) by overcorrecting with utterly lackadaisical disciplining of their own kids, just so they "won't be like" their own strict parents. Forgoing any boundary-setting rules, and becoming just a functionally non-parent beatnik, eventually reduced to enlisting child psychologists for help to control their unruly child because as they exclaim: "We tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!"
