i was saying this 5 years ago but all my LGB friends scoffed at me: forcing anti-gay people to be silent is a horrible idea because they will grow resentful and come back with a vengeance. We should have showed them grace and tolerance (which us difficult, I know and rarely pleasant). Someone has to let go of the conflict first for it to end, and we were in the ideal position to so so.

One dude's reddit post hardly is some great indication of current political trends. If I just went off interactions with some random yahoos online as actual evidence of Conservative political trends I probably would be convinced most conservative parties are looking to the NSDAP as the foundation for future thought.

The Republican Party a party that used to be one of the most conservative Western conservatives parties now has a voting base where 55% of them accept same sex marriage in 2021. That would be unheard of in the 80s/90s. It jumped 10% from 2015 alone. In at least NA Conservative popular ideas have shifted more to Populism and away from Social Conservatism. That kinda was inspired by Trump.

Trans rights are where the focus now is. They have a more direct effect on your average people. Identity politics wise race also takes way way more precedence. Even hardcore Social Conservatives a lot of them accept they have lost that battle and focus on trans issues or are usually put in a corner and don't largely have any serious voice. Some conservative thinkers have also realized they can cater to the LGB vote on some fiscal/foreign policy or social issues if they leave off on gay marriage.

There are obviously some people that are going to use it and say look slippery slope was right all along but many people also see that even many LGB people have issues with TRA activism. I just don't really agree seeing those numbers. It's probably going to only go up as more older voters who tend to be more socially conservative die off.

True. A lot of the posts here are just one-off links to specific Reddit posts, though, so I figured I'd post it anyway.

Man, I hope you're right! I mean, do you really think that the general public recognizes that LGB people aren't on board with TRA activism? I've been living in a heavily left area the past few years where everyone adheres to the rituals of gender identity piety (say your pronouns, "TWAW," talk about how privileged you are, etc.). So I find that a little hard to gauge.

its not one reddit post. I am seeing it more and more in places where right leaning people and lgb (left and right) agree, like socialjustice inaction. THe slippery slop is mentioned alot, even though I don't see how you go from marriage to transing kids, or even gender ideology. But since we are one big movement that always agreed on everything with one agenda since time began, then the current state of affairs is to be blamed on groups that wanted equal rights and that's it.

Well of course. Again I have see tons of trad cons on twitter many of them even borderline if not proud nazis. Online discourse still is a tiny % of what people truly believe.

To me stats like Republican Gay marriage acceptance are not indicating a massive surge against those rights. Maybe it's just enemy of my enemy is my friend. Still to me that stat is what is indicative of how people feel about gay marriage as a social issue. Over half of conservatives don't care anymore.

Slippery slope is just kinda well we gave x rights now the platform that championed those rights now wants x. Basically you give them a little they take everything. I wouldn't say it's entirely incorrect doesn't mean that LGB people don't deserve every right straight couples have but most of these movements have been hijacked to keep promoting more and more social issues so they can justify their existence. That is why in NA at least trans rights started to really pick up after gay marriage was legalized. Way too many people see homosexual attraction as a way to basically be inherently subversive to society. I mean it had to be for a time but it also means you get roped into other causes by many of the organizers as well.

Ultimately it is important that people who have same sex attraction due at least make their voices heard so that we aren't treated like a hive mind. You don't need to let bloated corrupt organizations speak for you.

Maybe it's just my age (mid-50s), but we knew to be very careful about how to handle these topics with kids. Education plans to teach gender identity to kids as young as pre-school and kindergarten are pretty clear attempts at indoctrination into a very controversial way of thinking about sex and gender. And because we allowed TRAs to hijack our organization and infrastructure, we're going to catch some of the pushback.

I will be honest here, even though I enjoy seeing people opposing TQ+ and pronouns shit...I don't enjoy seeing it from conservatives mainly because I know that if they get the chance, they are going to erase LGB rights too.

This is why I came here, because I know that even though most of us are probably not liberals and conservatives, we are all LGB here so if somebody says "TQ+ is rubbish" and I support them, at least I know that I'm not supporting a homophobe using a scapegoat.

I hope that people understand what I'm saying, what I'm saying is that even though conservatives are agreeing with us about TQ+, and even though more than 70% of Americans support gay marriage...they still do not recognize that LGB ISN'T TQ+, they all see them as the same thing and that makes them a danger to our rights, they only reason why they focus on hating transgenders now is that gay rights aren't controversial or troubling like the T is

I really don't think they're the monolith you make them out to be. With regard to gay rights and gay people in general I've seen four distinct camps among American conservatives:
-the "classical liberals" who champion individual freedoms and are pro- gay marriage (but are probably anti- compelled gay cakes)
-the idgaf crowd, which I suspect is by far the biggest group; similar to the above group but less civic-minded and mostly concerned only with issues that directly affect them
-the people you named, the ones who don't understand the difference between same sex attraction and transgenderism; my theory is that this group is basically the same as the last one and may have passively supported gay rights in the past, but no longer do because they think we're all on team trans now
-and finally the very religious and/or traditional types who see homosexuality and gender ideology as just two different flavors of degeneracy.

I feel strongly that we ought to consider the first two groups our allies, and do everything we can to show the third group the many fundamental differences between LGB and TQ+.

I consider myself conservative, which me l makes me an outcast on all sides. I just like smaller government and more freedom and self sufficiency. I don't hate anyone either, I like people and I judge everyone on a case by case basis, giving them the benefit of the doubt. But I understand that mentioning my meeting conservative puts others at a distance but I've gotten used to it. I do wish to see everyone getting along more and having a good time instead of fighting so much like so many do today.

I don't think conservatives in general want to erase LGB rights. They just don't want it so much in your face the way the LGBTQIA+++ has, seeing it in schools, etc.
