Same. And “self-indulgent” is a great way to describe it. “Non-binary” is such a “safe” way for cis het people to “identify” as so they can feel “special”. Because it means NOTHING. It has zero implications for them. If someone tells me they’re trans, or gay, or pan, or bi, I’m totally fine with that and have no problem. But every time I hear someone say they’re “non-binary” i roll my eyes a little bit. Not because it doesn’t exist, but because so many people who are CLEARLY NOT non-binary people describe themselves as “non-binary”. It does a real disservice to the people who actually ARE non-binary.
