It elicits feelings of nausea and rage and homicidal thoughts. Does that mean I'm not queer?

The criteria for inclusion in the "Queer community"; 1) Being called "queer" gives you "gender euphoria" 2) You want to be a part of "the community" or are searching for meaning/belonging

Sooooo, they're finally admitting that "queer" has nothing to do with same-sex attraction? And is just about a person's internal gender feelings or desire to weasel their way into a community they don't belong to?

Then why should they be included under the LGB umbrella?!

Does the term "queer" elicit feelings of excitement, euphoria, delight, comfort, or joy?

I don't think I've felt any of those things from a word, much less a word that's intended as an insult towards homosexuals.

Are people really out there living lives so devoid of anything that they have to cling on to random words for comfort and joy?

Yes.

This is a great question too. Would make a interesting study.

TBH, "queer" just reminds me of H P Lovecraft's stories. He overused 'queer' about as badly as he did 'eldritch'.

Cringe. Queer is word with little to no meaning. Silly to attach so much value to it.

I totally relate to your title. I think my biggest issue with "letting" straight people have the q-slur, though, is that it still is used as a homophobic slur in some places-- sometimes even by the supposedly "progressive" people who want to use it. And that fact is usually denied, minimized, dismissed by many people who self-identify as "queer".

Also, that article is total bullshit, lol. As time goes on, more and more the word "queer" has nothing to do with being LGB. Drop the Q, please...

If we give TQ+ the word "queer", it will continue to be used as a homophobic slur, except all the awful things TQ+ do will be lumped in with us and used to justify our oppression by wider society. I guess that's happening rn too, but of we don't pushback at all, more people will continue to believe we, LGB, advocate for and are represented by all the nonsense pushed by "the kweers".

Queer is a very useful word because when I see someone use it I know to run the other way

I knew it was going to be Healthline before clicking. They're a bit woke at the expense of credibility.
