The panelists are:

  • Malcolm Clark - LGB Alliance
  • Helen Joyce - journalist at the Economist and author of "Trans: When Ideology Meets Reality"
  • Tanya Carter - Safe Schools Alliance UK
  • Kate Grimes - ex NHS CEO
  • Dr Az Hakeem - Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Sinead Watson - Campaigner and detransitioner

I think Helen Joyce is the standout speaker IMO. She is careful with her language, but clear and to the point. Overall, she's a fantastic ally. I appreciate that not only does she not erase LGB people and issues from the narrative, but she actually centers LGB youth and the role of homophobia in the rise of gender identity ideology.

She highlighted that she has been supported by her boss at the Economist and therefore has had a different fate than Kathleen Stock. She says our strategy for combatting the institutional creep of gender identity ideology should be to focus on reforming and educating our employers and other institutions we are affiliated with on an individual basis. Raise complaints about things we are in a position to raise complaints about. Force them to stop having tunnel vision and grow a backbone to stand up against the crybullies.

That sounds like an awesome lineup.

I completely agree. I have noticed that about some of her writing that I've read and I really appreciate it.

In a similar vein, I've noticed that Allison Bailey is thoughtful about making sure bisexual people are included. Some of the "Lesbian and Gay News" people are not, and just say "lesbians and gays want X!" all the time. I find it kind of off-putting. (Then again, one organization has LGB in the name and the other has LG in the name... I suppose that checks out, unfortunately.)

She says our strategy for combatting the institutional creep of gender identity ideology should be to focus on reforming and educating our employers and other institutions we are affiliated with on an individual basis.

"But I shouldn't have to expend my energy, that takes emotional labor!" is what TRAs say. Yes, it does require energy-- and time. But that's time and energy well spent, because a) it paves the way for the next LGB person after me who has to interact with this straight person or institution, and b) I'd way rather my acquaintances hear a take on LGB issues from me than from some LGBTQ+ article that's full of misinformation.

Raise complaints about things we are in a position to raise complaints about.

Funny how simple but important a point this is.

Haven't seen this yet. Still need to finish the Nolan Investigation and Allison Bailey's speech, lol. I'm excited, though!

edit: Halfway through the session. This is really, really good. They got a great group of people together. I'm especially impressed by Helen Joyce and Sinead. Kind of an L that Malcolm forgot Tanya's name, though, lol.
