I really really don't get why ace people talk about being ace so much. I came out pretty late (mid 20s) and had never dated anyone until after I started coming out. I didn't need a word to describe myself while I wasn't dating, I just told people no. Any oppression I felt was due to internalized homophobia. I think it's fine to have a word to describe not being interested in sex, but I don't see the need to describe this as a stigmatized marginalized sexual identity.

The word is "Normal." It is normal to not think you should have a revolving door to your bedroom. The porn culture in the modern world has flipped childrens' expectations to the point we have this straight girl wishing she could label herself SOMEkind of way.

Oh god it’s exactly like in the superstraight sub (RIP) where everyone was met with ‘cute and heckin’ valid’ hahahahaa

Asexual people aren't oppressed or marginalized. No one would even know you're asexual if you stopped talking about it constantly. And I assure you, most people do not care about your lack of sex life.

I also don't understand how you can be both straight and asexual.

I feel bad for young people. You're going to have a ton of people going through normal teenage angst and diagnosing it with an identity that can stay with them for years.

I like to try to convince the youths: don't be in a hurry to label yourself. If they're questioning whether a label should apply they should wait until the hormones settle down!

Yet another reason why I don't consider myself part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I think there are some interesting commonalities in experience shared between asexual people and LGB people, but this "community" is not for LGB people anymore. It is is primarily in support of a subset of heterosexual people who society deems "weird" (aka "queer").
