It's because archiving creates an archive of the webpage at that given moment. You both archived at different times; you created your own archives that are different.

I've done this about a zillion times, but thanks. Actually when this happens on Reddit it is often because of what part of the collection of threads were open at the time. Otherwise, archive.today would report the existence of an archive and offer to create a new one of the current state.
