Yeah, I do too. I'd inquire but that would mean risking the abusive sibling pointing that at me as well, if the sane one disclosed the conversation. Which they might do, in one of their moments of weakness while being manipulated emotionally into defending the abusive sibling for no apparent reason. They go back and forth between seeing what a disaster their abusive sibling's behavior is, and honeymoon periods of wanting to believe the abusive one's manipulations that everything is lovey-dovey now. That is never true for very long.

The sane one is being abused, after all. :-( It's to be expected. But I do hope to deliver some validation someday. I would just need a better idea of what I was walking into first.

The best you can do is just be there for the sane sibling. Oftentimes, people who are being abused think that what is happening to them is normal, or they feel like they deserve it, or they feel like they have nowhere else to you. Just give the sane sibling advice on how to become financially dependent, and build up the sane sibling's self esteem. That’s if you’re still in contact with them, of course. If you haven’t been in contact in ages, then there’s nothing you can do about it.

The sane one has been financially independent for close to a decade. Just not emotionally. They are too damned earnest of a person to get what's happening to them (or were; I sincerely hope the fog has lifted at this point—they made plenty of motions of protest and showed a desire to distance themselves on a number of occasions).

We are not in contact.
