Yes I'm the same. The parenting theme of the 80s and 90s was the abolition of gender roles, particularly for girls. I feel like this mentality evolved (or devolved) into the trend of 'theybies'; progressive parents trying to escape socially imposed gender stereotypes by denying or hiding their child's sex altogether. I think there's a pretty straight line from that to modern gender ideology, which ironically has come full circle be reimposing sexist stereotypes under the guise of progressivism.
