He writes that Radical Islam "ignores human rights and civilian casualties from time to time," but we need to listen to them. I suppose I agree insofar as we should understand the appeal of such ideologies in order to prevent conditions that facilitate their spread.

But I get sick of woke straight guys (and some of the lefty LGB, too, we have to admit) talking about ideological systems that don't recognize human rights at all, treat women as property, and the LGB as abominations that need to be destroyed as just some different way of looking at the world.

Radical Islam is successful because they torture or kill anyone who expresses dissent. It puts men who go along with it in positions of virtually absolute power, while everyone else lives in fear. It's not that hard to understand.

The pro-Islam stance that a lot of liberals/wokesters have is honestly so ironic and bemusing. So strange how the people who claim to be so in favor of women's rights/gay rights are so fervently in support of what is currently easily the most misogynistic, homophobic religion on the planet.

Literally the only reason they're defending Islam is because most of its followers aren't white. That's really all there is to it. A lot of these same people have no problem bashing the fuck out of Christianity. If most Muslims were white they'd probably be bashing Islam just as much.

It's because of "intersectionality". It's like a nuanced concept but then everyone discards the nuance part and decides all groups which are a minority in the west are morally correct no matter the context.

They're defending Islam because islam is anti-western. Its not because they're POC (many arabs are basically white). Its also because of Israel - many leftists are anti-semetic and will defend whoever is fighting Israel, and now its the Palestinians, most of whom are Muslim.

I know race/ethnicity is a concept that changes depending on who/where you ask, but... how are middle eastern people white? You'd be able to tell the difference between a say British man and an Iranian man quite easily.

Sure. But middle eastern people will face prejudice in say Germany whereas people from other Northwestern European countries wouldn't. I don't see these definitions correlating with how racism is actually practiced.

Many of the so-called middle easterners in Europe are actually south asian, Afghan and Pakistani. They are not arabs.

ETA - there might be some legitimate arab refugees from Syria etc in the mix but I think in the last wave of refugees going to Europe they were vastly outnumbered by anyone who looked vaguely middle eastern going to Europe and saying they were Syrian but had lost their papers.

I don't think these people actually have any beliefs, they just think whatever they're told to think. If the media came out tomorrow and said that homophobia is good now these people would be insisting they had always been homophobic by the end of the day. Islam is obviously incompatible with the values these people claim to have, and it's ridiculous to see the same people who get faux outraged over lack of gay representation turn around and say we should listen to radical Islam.

Funny thing is that the guy who wrote this has a PhD in literature and has been to Iraq, even wrote a book about it.

His main point is usually criticizing U.S. military involvement overseas, which is fair, and radical Islam is one way in which opposition to U.S. militarism expresses itself. But that doesn't mean I need to "listen" to it to understand that it's a totalitarian, patriarchal, and anti-LGB ideology.

Sometime after 9-11, some Muslims were attacked/murdered by bigots, which puts all of them into the sjw “marginalized community” box. It doesn’t matter what they believe, or the fact that there are billions of them “marginalized” they must be protected at all costs. The secret is whenever they support these new rules or policies, they are never talking about themselves.

These rules are for everyone else to follow. As the enlightened, obviously the rules don't apply to them. They don't need 'em! They are religiously unaffiliated(though not ideologically unaffiliated) people who view the Quran as the natural counterweight to Bible.

The danger of fundamentalist Islam is a world away from people in these ultra-woke bubbles. The pressure from fundamentalist Christianity is much closer to home, so they have this distorted view of which is worse. Even though in most other aspects they are very similar to these Christians in their own country. It's an example of the Narcissism of small differences. Which also kind of explains why the woke do this gender identity stuff. To purposefully set themselves apart from people who are too similar to them in mindset, culture, upbringing, and too close in physical proximity. I mean, do you know how triggered some people can get with the possibility that someone of slightly differing ideological views "can be right next door" to them? One of their neighbors? gasp

It's basically a cultural hang-up that for whatever reason never got resolved in a healthy and mature fashion and so are manifesting in strange, non-productive ways. It's like a societal bible bump.

It's just orientalism and white saviour mentality with a different approach. To simp for those that argue for death towards gays, bisexuals and lesbians and think women need to exist in a real Handmaiden's Tail society on steroids don't need sympathy.

I am an unabashed ethnocentrist though and regardless of all the atrocities the West has committed t has done the better at least somewhat protecting vulnerable people in their rights to purse life and happiness. I don't really have any interest in a religion where the main prophet was a sex pest and a pedophile.

We don't need to platform every idiot who got fucked over by European Imperialism. Though as people point out there is a lack of consistency from people who are "woke" because the goal is not to have a consistent ideology but to just use any group that opposes the West. Islam does so they get protection. It's kinda self destructive as the vast majority of them have beliefs that originated and are mainly protected by "western" society.

I will say I have friends who were Muslim and yeah they aren't all monsters coming to kill us all but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be critical of what Islam has been use in the name of, what the Quran or Hadiths have said or how Islamic countries are conducting themselves.
