I've been saying for years that this was going on since at least 2008. When I joined YouTube (as in became a vlogger to whine about my dysphoria and abusive relationship with a bisexual femme)... there were a lot of women on there using T and suggesting it for butches like me. Most were older women (Buck Angel's age) but there were also children. One girl used puberty blockers and showed how her body changed. She only developed hips on one side... the other side was straight (no curvature). I think she was 14 or 15. No one was calling themselves "nonbinary" nor "transmasc" back then which I see a lot on the butchlesbians subreddit. YouTube was a hotbed for testosterone promotion right after Google bought the website in 2006.

I am baffled. What?? That's a thing that can happen???

We don't know.

The effects of puberty blockers are mostly a mystery, so 'trans kids' are literally being used as test subjects.

This is going to F up her spine and gait, she'll be in a world of hurt from her hips and back when she's older. My hips are uneven and I'm constantly in pain in my hips and back.
